So I’m just wondering what people think, is it safe to say that Halo can only go up from here? And by that I mean if 343 actually tries to make the game good this time can it only get better? Or is there some chance that it can actually get worse?

It depends, it could go either way.
I’ve got an awful feeling that Halo is just going to keep on going down and down from here.
I would love to be proven wrong, but I doubt that will happen.
I think it could only go up from here if 343 realizes their mistakes. Infinity anything should not be the default gametypes. Loadouts, and personal ordnances and sprint don’t work for halo.
It would be wise to look at the original trilogy for what things worked because right now these new things aren’t working and the population shows that.

I’ve felt that Halo 4 has been on a general trend of improvement this last month and a half. I also think that 343 has really learned a lot through Halo 4. I definitely cut them some slack for this being their first complete Halo game and thought it was pretty good for a first try. I’m looking for Halo 5 to be their make or break game though.
I think 343 wasn’t sure what they were holding when they were handed the torch and got burned. Hopefully they will learn from their mistake.
Halo will probably fade into obscurity regardless of what is done with it or which direction it takes. Most new-generation gamers don’t like it, and most of the older fans have moved on as well. Unless something amazing happens with the series, I don’t see much changing in Halo 5 or Halo 6.
Even Halo 3’s population is miniscule compared to what other games are pulling these days.
