Is it possible Cortana will not go rampant?

So, we all know that UNSC AI only last 7 years, and Cortana is 8. The E3 Stage Demo even lines this up by Cortana giving a brief monologue. But will it happen? The Radio Conversation on Outpost in Halo Reach leads me to question Cortana’s susceptibility to rampancy within 7-8 years.

I believe it’s possible. Halsey using her own clone to build Cortana may change things since Halsey is such a genius, and maybe more. But I really think it might end up being all her interactions with Forunner technology may open up ways for her to extend her life.

This is likely, as I think they would want to keep the character alive.

It’s not a question of whether or not she’ll go rampant. The question is whether or not she’ll survive it.

Well 343i has been telling us that Cortana goes rampant, so unless they’re lying which I doubt they are, Cortana will go rampant. But I doubt she’ll die, a lot of the story will probably be based around Cortana and the Chief and him trying to save her and stuff. :L

The fact that Cortana is going crazy in the trailer suggests that she is indeed going rampant.

I think she’ll at least start to go rampant… perhaps she will switch between two personalities for a while? Like sometimes she’s helpful like her normal self but suddenly she’ll go temporarily insane?

This will most likely be part or most of the game.

OP, while it is theoretically possible that Cortana may not go rampant. I believe 343i have already stated that her rampancy will play a role in the story for Halo 4.

Cortana will probably go rampant, since all evidence points to it, and I remember that 343 confirmed that her rampancy will play a part in Halo 4.

But with all the forunner Intel she’s gobbled up I’m pretty sure she can pull through. And we all know she stuffed herself like a thanksgiving turkey with Forunner knowledge.

Yes, but that’s how rampancy starts. An AI absorbs too much info, and basically thinks itself to death.

Yes but that’s with the assumption of the technology they have at the time, not Forunner technology. It’s quite possible that changes every thing. She even said that it has extended her normal operating time frame.

Yes, but even Guilty Spark went rampant, even though he was Forerunner technology. Cortana is only human technology, which doesn’t even compare to the Forerunners.

Cortana has also been completely tortured and abused by the Gravemind if you will all recall. The closest parallel to that would be rape in a way. He even made her EXPERIENCE pain with a slap AND infection by the Flood. If she does not experience rampancy then I will be very skeptical about how 343 handles this issue.

After all, it’s going to be playing a major role in the story, 343 has been hyping up this part of the story many times in the past and to not have this play a critical part of the story would be a missed opportunity.

I am more interested how Master Chief is going to handle a crazed Cortana. He saved her once from the Gravemind but can she be saved from her own insanity?

Also consider her eyes in Origins. That iris symbol belonged to an AI named AdjutantReflex that was part of Halo 3’s ARG. However, AR was taken over by Mendicant Bias.

So, does she have some of Bias in her?

I hope not. Would be such a cop out, and I’d like nothing more than to see the death of that annoying voice in the back of chief’s head who has to dumb down everything and repeat information. She literally serves no purpose than to reiterate what’s already happened. She’s like Uhura, but for Halo instead of Star Trek.
