Is it me or does his armor look more plastic?

Halo 5 has some really bulky armor, but it never looked like metal and we all complain its plastic. But the trailer itself, can you simply look at his armor and see it as metal as well? For me personally, it looks a like more polished plastic than Halo 5… they should’ve had Blur do it, they made the armor sound heavy dumbells

Blur does pre-rendered CGI. This was in-engine. They could change the color/texture of Chief’s armor before release. They did it with Halo 3 after the announcement trailer as the color and texture of Mk VI in that trailer resembled concrete or stone more than metal.

I know its pre-rendereD CGI from Blur. Im saying I don’t mind that. As of now, I love the armor but hopefully its final stage looks more metallic.

I’ve seen a lot of complaints about chief ooking plastic or off color. Honestly I can’t really seem to tell, I think his armor looks bad -Yoink-, perhaps his best look yet.

I thought it looked great

I love the design of the armor, the color needs to be toned down so in direct light it gets lit up more, not the actual color getting lighter in shades if that makes sense. And I think they could do a little more to show it’s metal, I use HW2 as the golden standard for the color and textures I would want him to look like.

Watch the trailer in HD on Halo’s YouTube channel. The materials on the characters look fantastic. It’s most apparent when Chief looks at his hands. His armor has very matte paint over it, but it definitely looks like metal.
I agree about Halo 5 though. the materials on the Spartans just look bad.

It just looks like a coating, Ceramic or something like that. I’d like it to look more dark, OD green or something, Otherwise extremely impressed

I changed the base white to a warmer white and reduced gamma. This removes the plastic look from everything. the pictures are just overly lit and the colors are to blueish.
I also gave the armor some tweaks for greater mobility

I think that it looks great to be honest.

Design of the armor is great, the texture is what gets me. Looks cartoonish

Rather Have plastic then what Halo 5 gave us.

Chief’s armor is a definite mish-mash of his suits from 3, 4/5, and Forward Unto Dawn. It’s already growing on me.

I think it looks great, but I’ll revise my comment once we see actual gameplay and how that looks (though, I also think that will look great).

armor is great, just lighting and it needs more textures like e3 2018

I say this as an old fan who’s played since CE released; it’s the first time I’ve felt Chief’s armour is perfect.

reducing gamma by 10%, increasing contrast by 10% and warm white by 15% this makes the lighting more realistic.
together with adapted light levels and color hues, and maybe a cheap filter, these lighting changes bring the graphics up to H2A
cutscene epicness.

Looks like a painted metal to me, I would probably bump up the strength of the roughness/gloss maps a bit or even in the metalness map add a tiny bit of paint peeling on like the edges as just pure metal just to add some variation. Then again I’m a novice when it comes to PBR stuff so may not be the best idea.
