Is it just me..?

… or is anyone else struggling with the matchmaking on Halo 2/Halo 5 Beta?

I used to be awesome (not to blow my own trumpet), Reach was where it all started for me and 4 was much of the same. Especially with Reach, there was rarely a game where i didn’t come out on top. I thought I’d mastered war games and from now on, I’d always be, at the very least, pretty good at it.

But I just cannot seem to succeed with the Halo 2 multiplayer and the Halo 5: Guardians Beta. I’m using all the same styles and tactics I always have and I’m coming out bad each time. 10 kills is a pretty successful game for me on The MCC. I’ve been at it since the release and I’m no better at all, I’m generally slaughtered everytime.

Is it just because all the pros and whatnot are playing all the time and not enough moderate players? Or are the weapons/melee different in terms of damage they give? Were the more recent games just a little easier for players?

Those who have been playing for years through all the games have gotten to adapt with the times and adjust as each new game comes out, as well as maintaining their core skill that they’ve been able to return to with The Master Chief Collection. But the matchmaking I’ve been playing for the last few years seems to have gone now. We went from 2 and 3, to Reach and 4, and it now feels like we’re officially back with 2 and we’ve taken a step back (not in terms of quality or anything, just a step back to an older way of doing things). Of course there’s a huge community of players that have welcomed back this old way of playing, t’s great for those to go back who used to play it, but for some reason this is the way things are going to be indefinitely it appears.

I absolutely love Halo, every aspect of it, but these games keep knocking my confidence to play online completely. It used to be a fairly big part of my Halo experience, and although I’ll always love and follow and everything Halo (books, games, comics, etc), I don’t know what I can do other than try to adjust and take the battering for a while. It’s just too frustrating at times to enjoy it when I’m constantly dying.

It’d be great to hear if anyone else is struggling to adapt to this multiplayer after Reach and 4 (without being called a noob).

Thanks

My first proper Halo online experience was with Halo 3 and then Reach and Halo 4 and I wasnt too bad a player on Reach and Halo 4 but like you I have found getting to grips with Halo 2 MCC a bit of a struggle.

I have found Halo 5 a bit easier though and I have really enjoyed what I played in the beta.

Halo 2 is different from other halos I feel like it is a little more team oriented. A majority of the maps allow great map control options. I started on halo 2 and was very good as just a kid. Halo 3 I was good not great along with Reach and halo 4. The beta I feel is just makingn adjustments that you will need to get used to. My first 5 games were horrid but now I’m finishing on the top a majority of my games win or lose.

Ranking wise if you feel you’re rank is quite low on the H2A playlist it is simply because everyone hasn’t leveled out at the rank they should be. The game hasn’t been out long enough to let casual players that are decent fill in the gaps. There may be extremely talented players at rank 10 for example but just haven’t played enough yet. Your rank will reflect skill just give it time. Hope that helps…

All day everyday I encounter problems.

Never played halo 2 mp before mcc. I gotta say, I was already decent on halos 3-4. But man, jumping into h2 for the first time I got wrecked. I still struggle with halo 2 but I’d like to think I’m getting better. I’ve been getting somewhere between 20 kills now each game and I guess you can say I suck less
