Is it just me, or is forge too hard now?

I, like all of you, waited anxiously for forge to come out. And now that it has…I find myself getting frustrated and upset each time I use it.
I’m not sure why, 343 and community forgers said it was better then ever now. Meanwhile I haven’t got a clue as to what I’m doing, Halo 4 forge was easier than this. I remember it having some premade structures, and other things separated by blocks which vary in size like 2x2 tall 2x4 short and so on.
Now idk where anything is or how this new “better” forge works. Does somebody have a copy of Halo 5 forge for dummies? Because I could really use one. But seriously am I the only one who thinks the new forge is a pain to use? It seems to be made for more serious builders and not average joes like me…

The new forge is extremely frustrating for the first few hours you log. But it starts to get easier pretty fast and before you know it you’ve got it down, you’re flying through your first project, and you can’t imagine how it ever worked any differently. Trust me. Just stick with it. You’ll get there.

Must be one of those steep learning curves. Things hard at the start are more rewarding once you get going they say. I suppose its also hard to fit so many wonderful features into a one size fits all training method.

I often wonder that since the creators are so well trained they forget to provide simpler steps for those of us less trained in such things. Like those games where you select easy and can’t get 10 metres - you wonder whose ‘easy’ it is.

The new Forge has a steep learning curve but it gets easier with practice

Try to sit down and explore your options on an empty map such as Alpine. It’ll familiarize yourself with the layout and makes for an easier Forging experience.

There is one YOINK of a learning curve, but once you force yourself through enough grueling hours, it definitely gets easier.

It certainly has a steep-as-hell learning curve on it, and I’ve only gotten to the point where I kinda have the XYZ axis manipulation almost down, but I haven’t played with it much.

My only issue so far is with trying to remember what the part was called that I used somewhere when there’s ten of them in that category. That and spiral stairs/ramps don’t exist anymore, which sucks for me.

Overall, I’m looking forward to learning to use this, though. I never could do what I wanted in Forge because it was far too limited what I could do to the actual ground under your feet. This is what I asked for, it’s just not user friendly off the bat. I’ll learn.

It was extremly annoying when I first started but, It is way easier to build good maps with it,
Imagine building a Symmetrical map in Halo Reach/4/MCC
You build one side of the map and then you just quit because you don’t want to make the other side of the map, now you just copy and paste and done

I really couldn’t get into Forge for prior iterations, but this one I can’t get enough of for some reason. The learning curve is definitely frustrating, though.

That’s the trade-off almost every time when you have more control and more options. It’ll take the whole community a while to get used to, but once it does, there will be some pretty impressive results.

Like the rest of Halo 5 and every other Halo game there is a learning curve to overcome, I found it difficult at first but now I can Forge a lot quicker than I could in the other games.

You just have to forget about the controls in previous halo games, and re-learn them for halo 5. It took me a couple of hours before I became proficient with the halo 5 forge controls.

I have my moments from time to time, but its usually because I press the wrong button (example reading duplicate as delete). My advice to you is make sure you save frequently when your making stuff. Also if your getting used to forge just experiment. I was playing in Parralax with a couple of friends and we were experimenting with forge. That’s how I got the grasp of it. The map is in chaos now but I did find a couple of new things to muck around with.

I agree to some extent, it’s a bit difficult for a novice but it’s easy once you get the hang of it. It looks more like a developer setting which is awesome, but than again seemingly confusing at first. To sum it up, it’s something we can deal with, plus you can do more in this forge compared to any other Halo.

I have something that might help. This thread has some advice for getting on your feet with this new forge system.

It will get easier the more you use it however no one’s pointed out all the actual problems with forge as well that do not get better the more you use it.

  • Grouped objects will move randomly at times/magnets may affect this too to what degree not sure. - Angles of duplicated grouped objects will change for no reason. - The lighting will break. This isn’t major but can be annoying - When you save the map with somthing grouped the game will just group a bunch of other stuff together with it. Or merge all existing groups together. - If you cover all your spawn points you will not be able to load into the map. - Welded objects will sometimes just fall apart. Literally - When you weld objects together and script the welded object to rotate on the parant object in the group. It majority of the time will not rotate around the parant object properly and do a weird kinda wiggle. - Moving an object it slowww the only thing you can do to make it a bit faster is turn your look aceleration down to 1. This makes you move faster when you have an object selected.Basically just be careful because forge will sometimes blow up in your face.

i still finding it hard lads

> Grouped objects will move randomly at times/magnets may affect this too to what degree not sure.

Probably a magnets thing, I never use magnets (thats lazy and doesnt work 100%) and have never seen the glitch.

> Angles of duplicated grouped objects will change for no reason.

Yes, usually by about x.x1 degrees or so, nothing too bad. A fix to that is to reset orientation (while the objects are grouped) and re-align them.

> When you save the map with something grouped the game will just group a bunch of other stuff together with it. Or merge all existing groups together.

yeah, just be very sparing with grouping, and before you move a grouped object, undo the group and match the number of objects to be sure its the same group size. Then regroup it and do whatever.

> If you cover all your spawn points you will not be able to load into the map.

Delete all spawn points actually, but yes this is broken, however there is a temporary fix. Try this

> Moving an object is slowww the only thing you can do to make it a bit faster is turn your look acceleration down to 1. This makes you move faster when you have an object selected.

holding the sprint button (hold dont tap) will give you super speed.

But at least they fixed that bug where reloading the map in forge resulted in slight shifts in every object!

It’s something completely new that takes some getting used to, but trust me its for the better

I thought I was the only one who had theses issues.
