Is it just me or do medals feel

completely worthless now? Ever since I bought the game and played my first multiplayer game, I haven’t really noticed the medals at all. They feel so worthless. The ones in the previous games actually stood out, and you generally felt like you earned it. Reach had this same problem.

Why do I get a medal for getting a headshot kill when everybody starts out with precision guns? Why do I get a medal for killing somebody with the Needler? Why do I get a medal for killing somebody who’s recently killed a teammate? And why in gods name do I get one for killing a person who was reloading? I mean for gods sake I even get one for killing somebody.

What’s going to be in the next game? A medal for reloading your gun? I’m not mad about it, but it just sort of bugs me how so many medals are given away just for doing simple and trivial tasks that I don’t even notice them anymore. I remember in Halo 2 and 3, you actually deserved a medal when you got one. The only simple one in my opinion, was the beatdown one. But when you did beat somebody down, you didn’t get 3-5 medals to follow up after that.

tl;dr I liked when medals actually had some sort of meaning, Halo 4 gives you medals for almost everything now.

They all look the same to me, same as most of the armor. It’s all about the same, so I don’t much care. In Reach both were so different, and you could tell what was what. Not in H4.

I agree

They are so dull and bland that they are boring. I don’t even notice when I get medals except for the irritating as -Yoink- announcer. What happened to them standing out and colour. THE WHOLE GAME SEEMS TO HAVE NONE MINUS THE ORANGE ON PROMETHEAN STUFF>

My Killamanjaro medal didn’t feel pointless. I just ignore the majority of medals.

Yeah, none of them stand out anymore. They used to be so colourful. Whoever designed the medals for this game did a pretty bad job. It just blends in with the rest of the game.

I wouldn’t call it dull and boring but viewing them is a bit difficult. I certainly liked the Reach layout of medals and commendations, especially on a PC.

Totally agree. There isn’t even a top medal screen after the match which completely sucks! Went on a 30 kill spree? Nobody gets to see, nobody will know.

Good players stood out on the top medals screen, now all the game cares about is your own selfish performance and XP rating.

While I agree there are far more medals, keep in mind not everyone is on the same skill level.

Despite the fact that I personally have a 3:1 Kill:Headshot Ratio, making the Headshots I do seem fairly pointless… many of my friends have always found this to be quite a difficult task, so for them when they earn them it feels like an accomplishment for them.

This increases the amount that even though they might get a negative K:D during a game they don’t feel frustrated because they feel like they are actually helping the team out. So from my perspective this is a good thing… while for players like myself there are still some considerably difficult medals that require skill to achieve.

For example ‘Perfectionist’ (>15 Kill with 0 Deaths) that are good to strive for an care about. The same can be said about the quite considerably extended Multi-Kill times (now 4.5s instead of the previous 4s) while this might not seem like a big change; I have friends who are now capable of getting Doubles even Triple Kills without some fluke Sticky being the cause. Again this makes them feel better about their performance during the game rather than getting frustrated to the point where they don’t want to play anymore cause they can’t seem to do anything.

If you ask me the bigger issue is actually the Auto-Aim, Weapon Kickback and Bullet Stray frankly is so tonned down; it’s like playing a driving game such-as Forza with all of the Assists on. While this is fine for Campaign, when it comes to multiplayer AutoAim should be a mild (at best) aide with Kickback and Spread being considerably higher the faster you pull the trigger or holding down for Full-Auto.

As it stands the difference between Burst AR and Full-Auto AR is basically non-existant and the DMR/BR are almost perfectly accurate regardless of how quickly the trigger is pulled.

Not to mention there are some latency issues, where the game doesn’t lag but individual players can (this is different behaviour to how campaign works, which has some odd latency issues as if it’s Peer-to-Peer instead of Host-Client based… Halo Anniversary had the same issue, which imo should’ve been addressed prior to launch. Volt frankly are a terrible QA Testing Company that I wish wasn’t used primarily by Microsoft)

Well, the ‘generic kill’ medals feel worthless haha. Along with half the others.

When you get a medal, they don’t pop up large and in view like they did in other games. You only see the text - the medals are tiny and to the side, and disappear quickly. This is not as fun.

What’s worse is they took away the good medals. Headshot with the sniper and perfection. They are just catering to the casuals, but the casuals won’t be the ones looking to buy DLC when CoD is out. They should know that.

I’m gonna have to agree with the OP about the medals… It’s pretty ridiculous. They have all these pointless medals for stuff and we’re getting like 70 medals a game. They’re supposed to be stuff that you EARN. I mean I ge twhy they did it because they have all those commendations right now, but, come on. You still coulda kept the commendations and not had 45 new medals.

Sometimes I feel like they REALLY don’t pay attention to the Halo community FOR EXAMPLE:

The Stick medal: …It’s friggin’ gone. Getting a really nice stick is one of the most satisfying things IN halo. And now you don’t even have a medal for it? You added all those new medals and TOOK OUT this one? And you had the nerve to replace it with a Plasma Kill medal, that you get whether its a stick or not? This was literally a slap in the face to me.

The Sniper Medal: Seriously? Lesson was learned for Halo 3 where you got the Sniper medal for getting a HEADSHOT with the sniper. And don’t get me wrong, I love the Snapshot medal, and I see that you SORT OF recognized the fact that no-scoping is a big part of the community, but you realize it was absolutely ridiculous that you still get the medal when it’s not a headshot. There is NO reward for getting head shots with the sniper now.

No more Exterminations? Need I say more?

343, start paying attention would you?

Medals in Halo 4 feel useless and worthless to me. They’re pretty much small and unseeable, and hidden. When you see them you see they’re bland colorless circles.

In Halo 3 (and even Reach) they were Big and colorful and were nice to look at, and stood out.

Yes, they added way too many new medals, which cheapen their effect. After my first few games I was like “holy crap, I got 40 medals per game, I’m awesome!” And then I realized half of them were just “generic kill”,“headshot kill”, and other pointless things. It used to be fun to check medals after the round but now there’s so many I just don’t care. I thought H3 and Reach had the medals right. I understand people like to get medals, but as others have said, you shouldn’t get one for every type of minute variance in a kill or skill.

They all look the same. Whoever designed them did a poor job.

There are a few that should go but then there are some new ones I truly love like “Execution” (assassinate the king in regicide).

The biggest problem with the medals is the design. They are far too similar. They need to use more colors and shapes to help truly make them feel special.

Whatever you said. I like the new medals but i can’t see them very well in-game.

Yeah, averaging 30 medals a game is ridiculous. And you get an assist if you shoot a guy in the toe and he gets killed ten minutes later. I average like 12 assists a game. Somewhere in there there might be a double kill, but it gets lost in the 15 medals I earned simultaneously.

lol these threads are hysterical sometimes.
