Is it just me or are the bots getting... better?

I don’t mean that they’ve gone up to ODST difficulty, but I’ve noticed they’re not making the same stupid mistakes that they were a few hours ago (posting this about noon MDT.) For example, I frequently saw the bots have some pathfinding issues and would just randomly stop while looking at a wall. Now? They’re not doing that.

Same goes for power weapon awareness, they seem to be getting the timing on the sniper and power up pickup spots and are actively trying to go for them. Not only that, but they appear to be moving in groups of two or more. Sometimes I’ll catch one off the spawn, but most of the time I’m running into two or more.

That said, I really wish they wouldn’t charge yardside every time the game starts.

Anywho, has anyone noticed anything with regards to bot behavior? I don’t want to feel like I’m going crazy lol

It’s not just you, I do wonder if they’ve upped the difficulty or maybe have some kind of machine learning on them currently. That being said some matches feel way harder so it could really be that sometimes better or worse teammates can make the bots feel easier or harder.

I can’t say that’s true for me. Just finished another game 25-0.

Maybe it has something to do with the overall skill level of the lobby?

I’m not sure man I’d say I’ve noticed zero change in them so far. Maybe different named bots behave slightly different so people find more aggressive ones harder?

They definitely still get stuck for me. Specifically if im right above them they -Yoink!- out. They often seem to get stuck under the powerup spawn as well. They’ll all group together. I dont think theyre getting better. They’re just surprisingly good but buggy.

Bots are very easy. Even when playing on auto pilot, they just get steamrolled. We won a game earlier with nobody dying all game so lmao

The devs said that they would ramp up the difficulty of the bots as the flight went on. By the end of the flight, it will probably be like fighting a Jackal Sniper in Halo 2 on Legendary but its aggressive, gets in close range, and never panics . . . . . so run for your lives.

One bot is no problem. Unless he has a needler.
Two bots, not too bad, just keep the line of sight of one of them in check.
Three bots? If they’re all jumping and bumping into each other at powerup spawn, you can kill them no problem. Otherwise 3-4 bots will mop the floor with you because of superior numbers in firepower.

I have a theory that bots have machine learning and also incorporate human player movement statistics. In theory this could allow bots in forge by watching “heatmaps” and player jumping statistics. Basically pathing could be done with machine learning.

That’s what I mean by they’re not ODST. They’re still low tier bots, they just don’t seem to be as “dumb” as they were earlier. They seem to be performing more like players than bots, if that makes sense

I don’t know if they’ve gotten more difficult, but I am really impressed with their ability to flank. I can 100% take 2 or 3 bots solo if they’re in the same direction, but that 4th one has a nasty habit of finding it’s away around to the side. That’s gonna be a pain on higher difficulties.

I’ve noticed I’m just playing dumber because you start to realize you can get away with it most of the time then occisionally a bot will absolutely smash you .
Don’t get me wrong I love their inclusion into halo and if 343 allows the right settings I’ll run FFA odst and spartan bots until my fingers bleed . It’s so chill and frankly they are relaxing fun . I

For those that missed the stream
Recruits -bronze

late response but I found this excerpt from the Tech Preview Overview post: “We’re going to kick things off with the lowest skill level of Bots on a single map to help everyone get acclimated and ease into the experience. If the community can collectively help us hit our daily engagement goals over the course of the flight, we’ll increase the Bots’ skill and add more maps. The more bots you slay, the more the experience will evolve! They’ll get more deadly with each update – so, dive in early and often to make sure you’ve got a handle on what skills they’re bringing to the battlefield.”

I definitely see patterns of machine learning. I hope this is true. It could be just a toggle in script as well. Enable weapon pickup, strafe more, etc.

The more games I play, the better they get. I’ve been watching their behavior as I play, paying attention to what they do and do not.

Like any other bots, they can be exploited and defeated but they’re very impressive at selling the illusion.
