Is it finally time for an official Halo movie?

No doubt Forward Unto Dawn was a step in the right direction. I am really looking forward to Halo: Nightfall as well. Something tells me, and I think I speak for every Halo fan out there, that we are finally ready for Halo to hit the Big Screen. I understand that the production value would undoubtedly be high, but I feel that with the right Director, Cast and Crew…we could take our rightful place in Cinema history with a film adaptation of one of the most beloved video games of all time that does not bomb at the box office.

Halo defined a generation…and is STILL making waves today. The technology is FAR superior now in movie making then ever before. There is no excuse for this not to happen any longer. All I am saying is…Halo deserves this. As fans, nerds, movie buffs and gamers alike, I think that its safe to say we want this now and have been wanting it for years. When Neill Blomkamp Directed that live action Halo 3 short for the Halo 3 advertising campaign…I was SURE a Halo movie was right around the corner. I know it was pitched at some point…but I guess things just happen a certain way for a reason. It would have been great. He has a really good eye for gritty realism as well as a different take on Sci-Fi.

Even if one day we get a live action episodic telling of the main Halo story with 117 himself…I’ll be satisfied…but think of the midnight release line for Halo: Combat Evolved The Motion Picture. #kreygasm

Well we have a tv series coming… So a movie should not be far off… Although the last one ran out of gas.

If there is one, it should not focus on side characters/obscure storylines like everyone seems to want.

To introduce moviegoers to the Halo universe, a logical place to start would be a film based on the Fall of Reach and/or Contact Harvest.

I will always answer this question with a big, “YES!”

I think we are at the point where it could be executed properly, especially with Blomkamp as the director.

Yes it is time. But I definitely think it needs to be about some other part of the universe Master Chief is our story to figure out.

With the production quality being put into Nightfall, I say yes, most definitely. With Forward unto Dawn it had a small budget and it shows. The only new thing from that series was the set pieces, soundtrack and Master Chief’s armor the rest were reused pieces from other live action trailers and commercials.I’m guessing most of the weapons used were from Landfall.

Two series!

I thought forward until dawn was junk. I really want a mainstream movie starting from halo CE.

In light of the rumors of a Halo movie being in the works a few years back, I think this is a great point that has been looked at many times before. It deserves constant attention due to it’s legitimate possibilities and fan request.

Recently though, there have been many developments that could render a big screen Halo movie redundant. Around the time of Halo 4’s release, a mini-series called Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn was released and I really enjoyed it as a series of episodes at the time that would later combine into a full film I could enjoy in it’s entirety. It provided a source of rich back story and context for an important character in Halo 4, Thomas Lasky.

We now know there is another mini-series similar to Forward Unto Dawn being created called Halo: Nightfall. It will release alongside Halo: The MCC. Nightfall tells the story of Agent Locke and a group of others with him on Installation 04, the first Halo ring found (Halo:CE), as well as a few other secondary settings. Ridley Scott is behind the digital series, the man known for “Alien”. I expect it to have a darker and mysterious tone with a tense atmosphere. Agent Jameson Locke will be a pivotal character in Halo 5: Guardians. Again, they are providing background info for us, in order to get to know this new character in the story and lore.

Keep in mind, there is a full fledged live action Halo TV series being produced by Steven Spielberg right now that I believe will begin next year. We don’t very much at all about this, so we’ll have to keep our eyes out.

Also! The new Master Chief Collection will be getting fully remastered and completely enhanced cut-scenes redone by Blur Studios. Some of the cinematics have been released already to give everyone a taste of what is to come. Let me just say myself! They look fantastic! Blur really outdid themselves and it is around an hour of cinematics in total that they redid! That is a lot of cut-scenes, and it brings an idea to me. Would it be possible for Blur Studios to create a full feature film using the technology they’ve used to redo the cinematics in Halo 2? Personally I think it would be fantastic if they did something in the Halo universe like that and I think they could do it if they really tried. We’ll just have to wait and see what else Blur has up it’s sleeves.

So considering Halo: Nightfall, the Halo TV series, and the remastered cinematics for Halo 2 in the MCC, then I would say it is almost unnecessary for Halo to get an official movie. Nowadays, there seems to be more and more digital content and streaming in order to get our shows, such as Netflix. Plus, that is another reason they are making the Halo Channel on the Xbox One. I think it is smarter for them to move in the same direction other things are moving, in the interest of staying more relevant. But hey! Don’t get me wrong though! I’d LOVE an official Halo movie! I just don’t think, realistically, that it will happen anytime soon. It would have to be after Halo: Nightfall and the Halo TV series have left their marks to better understand the possibility of a Halo movie releasing in an ecosystem it can grow and get the attention it deserves. I think that ecosystem is online and digital, which is where they seem to be headed.
