Is it confirmed that the mp Spartans aren’t S-IVs?

I want to start by saying that this isn’t a big deal to me. I just know some people hate S-IVs with a passion, so I’m curious to see what 343’s decided to do in this department.

The multiplayer Spartans we’ve seen from the coating previews look a bit bulkier (I don’t mean that in a negative way at all) than the Spartan-IVs. I could be wrong—the tech suits and armor may just be playing tricks on my eyes. Has it been confirmed that they’re the S-IIs of old?

I dont think it really confirms anything. I don’t recall blue team looking more bulkier than S-IV’s in the previous games.

Oh! You’re right about them not looking much different in Halo 5. I just remember them seeming much leaner in Halo 4—almost like marines.

thats more of a result of the design of the under suite and armor. Realistically, they are just going to be spartan 4s with the new Mrk 3 armor (which is bulkier)

Gotcha! That makes sense.

I say this as someone who really loves the lore and has read all the books, I hope they don’t develop some in-story reason for multiplayer like they did with 4. Just feels unnecessary.

I agree. The whole War Games thing has always seemed silly to me. I hear that Halo Wars 2 has a de-canonized multiplayer, though, so there’s hope for Infinite!

Never mind that, I just hope they do away with all this “multiplayer is a training simulation” nonsense. Why was that even necessary?

Edit: oops. Didn’t notice the two posts above mine which echo my sentiments exactly.

343 really does try to justify everything with a lore explanation and it is completely unnecessary. Like when they decided that chiefs armor and the Forward Unto Dawn got redesigned by nanobots in his suit and the ships hull between Halo 3 and 4 to justify their art style change. Silly things like that need to be tossed aside, just say that you wanted to use your own art style for your game and call it a day, we don’t need a lore justification for it.

To my knowledge the only thing that is confirmed is that the game got delayed.

its likely both spartan-IIIs and IVs, as both are confirmed in Shadows of Reach to have access to the gen-3 platform. 343 probably isn’t going to actually state that the spartans in infinite are definitively IIIs or IVs, as that may be more up to the preference of the players. this would work, as due to their size IIIs and IVs are easily interchangeable in a multiplayer setting. And I like this, as I can still say my spartan is a IV because I like the IVs, while other players can say their spartan is a III because they like IIIs.

Maybe it’s Spartan V’s. I know there is literally no confirmation that such a thing even exists, but I can dream.

It has been confirmed in the Showcase Sensitive Canon fodder that the multiplayer Spartans are Spartan IV’s.

Confirmed they are I think
