Is it a voids tear or a voids tear?

I’ve always wanted to know this.

Is the void shedding a tear. Or did it tear?

This is may be confusing.

In other languages, it translates to weepy sadness water.

Ahh, So it’s voids tear. Not voids tear. Got it

It’s all how you see it. I see it as the void being teared to create a rift.

You could see it as the void crying and that’s it’s tear. Or the void being teared open.

Although the devs probably ment tear as in ripping

I always thought Voids tear… as in it tore you a new one…

Ladies and gentlemen…the English Language.

I’ve heard a lot of argument on the topic, but…
What if it’s both?

Exactly… I am rather certain that was the original intended meaning. The end result is that is creates a small black void near the target, tearing into the airspace while it creates it.

Awkward translations aside, I’m fairly sure that this weapon’s name wasn’t attempting to imply that there was any crying involved.

Savage…

i do believe its tear as it rips a hole to create a gravity well

What if it’s pronounced voh-idz tay-ar?

I always thought of it as water like Tears

It probably means the ripping version because it’s tears the space time continuum or whatever, but I still call it tear as in crying.

And how many voids are we talking about tearing? Or is it the tear which belongs to the void?

Honestly, it can be both.

Physically: the weapon is literally tearing (synonym: ripping) a whole in the fabric of space-time, also sometimes called the void.

Philosophically: if you watch the gravity well you make, it can look a little like undulating water, thereby making it seem as though the void is crying at the action of being torn open.

When spawning one in Forge, the description states “I’ve heard it both ways”. There you go.

You’ve obviously never been on the receiving end of a Voids Tear. There is plenty of crying involved. And whining, and complaining, and moaning, and groaning.

Either one makes sense. I kind of hope we get a definitive answer from 343 on this.

I hope so too. It’s not really important at all. But it’s one of those litte conversations my halo friends and I are always debating.

Tear as in its crying. Finally the day has come for people to decide.
