I’m trying to figure out why there are so many smurf accounts in Halo 5. I feel it has maybe something to do with the fact that for such a long time nothing new in terms of REQs have been released. Once you’ve unlocked everything from silver and gold packs there is nothing you can get. Yes, you can try getting ten million XP points to unlock a certain emblem, but is that enough to keep people playing on their main account? I don’t think so.
343 needs to keep veteran players interested in Halo 5 and make sure they keep playing on their main account. And to do so, this Halo 5 draught needs to stop. Release new REQs, new maps, new commendations, whatever. I’ve made multiple posts on this issue. If it’s really hard for 343 to make new REQs they can make easy ones like new skins of the most popular armor and helmets (like for example a Buck version of Helljumper). Or just release the Boomco AR and Magnum in all the colors of the rainbow (and not just red and green).
I played Destiny these last few years. I’m not hoping 343 will do exactly the same thing as Bungie, but Bungie knew how to keep players coming back to their game, again and again. Every few months they released new armor, new guns, new perks, new strikes, sometimes a raid, new PvP maps. And something I didn’t agree with: increased the ‘light level’ of the players. So once you reached the highest rank, a few months later you can start over because that rank will be low again and you have to start the grind again. Well in my opinion that ruined the game a bit, because it also made old strikes and raids obsolete, because they were designed for a lower level.
Okay, long story short: if a draught appears in a game, players will find ways to entertain themselves in the game. In Halo 5’s case: creating a smurf account. If 343 didn’t let this draught go on, people will continue to play on their main account because there is new loot to earn.
343, think about this. Don’t kill your own game.
What do you guys think is the reason for the increase in smurf accounts?

And how do you think 343 can prevent that from happening? There are maybe too few onyx players to play with. So those people felt the need to not play Halo 5. How do you think 343 can bring those people back?
It’s sad how kids these days get bored of their video games so quickly if they don’t constantly have new content being added to them. Back in my day, video games shipped on big plastic cartridges and we had to entertain ourselves with whatever was on that cartridge.

Aaah, the good old days.
Yes, you’re right, but these days it doesn’t work like that anymore. There are so many games just in the FPS genre alone. People feel the need to feel progress in order to play the game. If that is sad or not, doesn’t really matter. 343 needs to make sure people want to keep playing their game on their main account. And I think a way is to add loot to the game. I saw how that helped Destiny every few months. What has been done in Halo 5 in 2017? 9 helmets got released that aren’t even added in the loot pool. That’s it!
Whether it is new skins, armor, helmets or warzone weapons or vehicles. If there is nothing to gain from a game will stop playing it (or create a smurf account and shoot some noobs).

I remember that time.
Some lucky guys even owned converter cartridges,so you could play Gameboy games on the TV screen.
Brings back alot of memories and not only good ones.
To the thread.
One of the few things 343 could do,would be to simply ban everyone that gots reported too many times as a smurf, but that would be abused pretty quickly.

LOL! Oh I know. Most of those games you only had 3 lives to beat the WHOLE game too (minus extra men) lol I still have many of those plastic cartridges too and I agree, it’s sad how kids are today. They get bored super easily, have to be constantly rewarded and if there not good at it in 10mins, they give up and say it’s too hard lol
@OP I think smurf accounts are 343I and Microsoft fault. Unlike in the past when people made new accounts once they hit Max rank, which I don’t think that’s as much of an issue in Halo 5, people in Halo 5 made new accounts for two reasons mainly I think,
They got ranked too high in a playlist and couldn’t find matches anymore or - because it’s been proven that new accounts have better aim, less lag input and stuff like this. The heavy aim patch addressed a lot of this but it didn’t fix it entirely and 343I even acknowledges that.Thats why people made new counts in Halo 5 mainly. Now it’s Microsoft fault, because you can have five?? accounts is it?? On one gold account now. Where as before, every person needed their own gold account. Hence it’s easy for people to make new accounts and just stomp people. I 100% agree that smurfing, aka new accounts, is a real big problem and I think much bigger than Halo 3 was and I was around in those days too (started with CE) it’d be nice if things changed in Halo 5 but I’m not counting on it but things definitely need to change for Halo 6 for sure.

Wow, I’ve never heard about point 2. Do you have more information on that, or know where I can find something about it?
Is there a difference between 2015, 2016 and 2017 accounts when it comes to aim and lag, or is it because new accounts have less REQs?
This is an interesting point. I bought Halo 5 end 2015, early 2016, played two months and quit until June 2017 and started playing again. I wonder if that would count as a new or old account. Probably old…

This. Pure and simple.
I get that there’s a legitimate reason why Microsoft implemented the multiple profile policy, but it was clearly done without any consideration for what it would do to any competitive game that uses skill-based matchmaking. I don’t know what the solution would be, but it could be something along the lines of cutting the price of gold in half but taking away the multiple profiles. I don’t know. I do know that whatever the solution may turn out to be, it doesn’t have anything to do with 343. It’s all on Microsoft.
No, it’s the Smurfs fault that they can’t go outside, Halo 5 is their life, they Smurf for good stats & Division/rank placement while ruining fun for casual gamers
It’s not 343’s fault, Mainly Microsoft since they made making Alternate accounts easy

Yep. It’s not 343’s fault because they haven’t added new content in a while. Not even in the slightest. Sure Microsoft has made it easier, but it’s the smurfs’ fault for being -yoinks-. Also OP, Bungie made you pay $110 extra for the whole game, while Halo 5 hasn’t forced you to pay any for the whole game.

True. 343 doesn’t owe us anything when it comes to new REQs. And I’m not trying to say they do. But apparently there are people that feel the need to play Halo 5, but don’t feel any need to play it on their main account. And 343 still makes money from microtransactions. Besides that, many REQs are very easy to make (skins on armor/helmet/weapons). So if new REQs get released, people will likely play it on their main account instead at one of their smurf accounts.

This. I just don’t enjoy having more waiting time than actual play time when i can just find games quickly on an alternate account, not to mention that i won’t care as much when i get bronze 1 teammates once again. Though, as soon as I reach onyx on the smurf, the waiting times will increase by alot again so i have to make another one.
So it’s basically Road to Onyx over and over again lmao.

All accounts on my 360 can play 3 or Reach and i only own it on my profile. Live is the only thing stopping them from playing multiplayer.

While I usually don’t defend 343 I will now.Smurf accounts or 2nd accounts have been around since halo 2,so it’s no one’s fault

I don’t ever remember all dlc adding up to 60 dollars for bungie games,so Idk where you came up with that number from.Things cut from launch and then added later shouldn’t necessarily be praised as being free and while bungie did swindle us with making odst a full priced game rather then a 30 dollar expansion, they at least had quality dev made maps added in as dlc
