Is.....Is that all?

As many of you should know by now, Halo 4 will feature a new enemy faction and apparently, the Covenant will take a “back seat” to the Prometheans. My only problem with the “Pro’s” is that there are only three types of enemies, two, if you think that the Watcher is more akin to equipment than an actual enemy, with several different variants.

From the looks of things, we’re essentially going to just be fighting humanoid enemies with T-rex arms who occasionally teleport, brittle dog-like enemies that either try to swarm you in groups or the few that stay back and “snipe” you and a floating eye is merely a support unit.

Do you think that the Pro’s are diverse and interesting enough to overshadow the Covenant, or will Covenant steal the show, in terms of general combat?

What did we start with in H1 for covy enemies?

Grunts, Elites and Hunters?

We’ll have to play Halo 4 and find out.

I have a feeling we will see some more, at least something similar to the turret in the gameplay of the mission “Forerunner”.

Plus, there are different types of the current classes, and the default ones offer a good amount of diversity in their normal behaviors.

And Jackals.

Also, another beef I have is that Crawlers and Watchers don’t drop weapons, to the best of my knowledge, so it looks like we’re going to have to rely solely on Knights for Hardlight ammo.

I think it’s a fantastic introduction to our enemies in the reclaim trilogy.

Three types of enemies and each species has various classes, similar to the covenant. I’m digging it.

Well there’s like 6 different versions of knights. You have to look at the fact that we’ll be fighting the Covenant on top of them. This means we’ll be fighting Grunts, Elites, Jackals, Hunters, Crawlers, Watchers, and all forms of Knights. Quite some variety.

Plus, they’re teamed up for at least a mission or two. That should be some interesting combat.

There’s also several different types of Elites where the only difference is shield strength and weapons, save for Stealth and Ranger Elites. The same tactics you use to take down a Minor could still apply to an Ultra in Reach

Besides, the question is about the Pro’s diversity, not every single enemy in the game.

Watcher’s don’t really have any form of weapons that we could use so that makes sense, and crawler’s drop boltshots and I think supressors.

Ha, I can’t wait for Beam Rifle and Binary Rifle shots to come flying at me at once. (Sarcasm)

Are we sure about that? From what I’ve seen, Crawlers seem to use Forerunner weaponry that we’ve seen, but it seems to be infused in their bodies, as in coming straight out of them.

I have a strong feeling that there are more to be shown. The Flood wasn’t in the Combat Evolved manuel, were they? Nor were Scarabs in Halo 3.

And all the footage we’ve seen of the Prometheans has come from the first few missions and a couple select Spartan Ops missions (and in the latter, only the first mission had the basic Knight-Crawler-Watcher combo; the others are yet to be seen). Hunters were not introduced until the 4th CE mission, the Flood in the 6th, the Scarab bosses in the 4th of Halo 3, etc.

I’m sure there are many more to come.

Do all crawlers drop boltshots, or just the “Alpha Crawler”? I mean, if every Crawler drops one, than you could supply your entire team after your first encounter with the pack.

have you seen how the forerunner weapons form together when you pick them up? thats because they assemble to best fit the body of the user. this lets crawlers carry boltshots and supressors. watchers have boltshots too.

PS

OH NO! a whole team of PISTOLS!!! /sarcasim. boltshots are pistols. they are weak. (unless you charge them, wich is HARD to pull off.)

If all of them drop boltshots, perhaps it could be like campaign needlers, with very low ammo. Wait… can you pick up ammo for Forerunner weapons?

Well, you do have to manually reload them. I still find it odd how 343i’s idea of Forerunner weaponry is essentially a grey gun that shoots orange bullets.

Though very few in variety, they do more than the Covenant on their own:

Crawlers can attack from just about any surface. Right above you, below you, wherever. If its a surface, a Crawler can make its way up there to flank you and make you look the other way.

The Knights not only fight you, but they can spawn the Watchers. Given the ability to teleport in and out of a fight, they can take a beating.

The Watchers look to be one of the more annoying jerkwads in the group. They can shield a Knight when they need it. They can spawn Crawlers. They’ll even play a decent game of catch with your grenade. On top of all that fun stuff, if given the chance, they’ll revive a fallen knight that you killed.

Mix them all together, with the flanking Crawlers that can get all up in your face, the Knights who will get in your face with their weapons and teleportation, and the Watchers who will summon more Crawlers to flank you, protect the enemies you are trying to kill and bringing back the dead, they can be a handful.

Then have them be buddies with the Covenant. Have fun.

That’s true. Even if the look of the enemies isn’t varied, their roles on the battlefield are very diverse and unique. I’m very impressed with 343 in adding a much more tactical aspect to gameplay.

Is that all? Haha… No my dear fellow player. It’s not.

Scroll down and take a look at the enemies and descriptions.

It’s not just Knights, Crawlers and Watchers. I mean, those are the Enemies, but they fall into different classes. It’s like pwning an Elite Minor and then switching it to LASO and having the Ultras walk all over you (Which made me think why all Elites were never Field Marshalls or Generals…).

Oh and Watchers can resurrect Knights (even the powerful ones) and summon Crawlers from Requiem.

Just be careful of the Battlewagons and Commanders. Man, I’m getting scared for my Legendary run already >.<
