Is is just me, or is the Gravity Hammer OP??

Ok, so in Halo 5 there was a new feature called Smart-Link. This was added for every weapon, even melee weapons. For those of you who don’t know, Smart-Link is basically when you zoom in through your scope, but for some reason, in Grifball matches, whenever an enemy is using a Gravity Hammer, they seem to be able to dash incredibly far when using Smart-Link. This should not be the case at all. I can see why you can dash with the Energy Sword, it makes sense, but why the Gravity Hammer? At least the Smart-Link range should be reduced on the Gravity Hammer! And another thing! The swing speed on the Gravity Hammer and the Energy Sword is the exact same, yet when 2 people come at each other, one with an Energy Sword, the other a Gravity Hammer, the person with the Gravity Hammer kills the other guy! Why is this the case?! 343, if you’re looking at this forum post, please nerf the Gravity Hammer! It would be greatly appreciated!

I think it really depends on which gravity hammer you are talking about. I think the T1 hammer is useless because you will most likely be killed by an opponent who at least has a magnum before you get close enough to do anything. If you are just talking about hammer vs sword both T1 then it makes sense that the hammer could stop a sword lunge. It has been the same with any Halo version that a properly timed hammer strike works as a bulltrue and the hammer wins.

Oh, I did not know that last part, thanks for the info!

I think we all know what Smart Link is lol Game’s been out for a year and half :3

Gravity Hammers can be used quite effectively given the right circumstances. While it may not have the passive speed boost or the reach of the Sword, you can shrug off hits from that weapon and can mess up enemy vehicles if you feel inclined in doing so. Smashing the living **** out of an enemy Wasp is hilariously epic.

EDIT: In addition, Gravity Hammers can obliterate the enemy core in Warzone when you have a clear shot.

How in a grunt’s blue balls did you hit an enemy wasp with a hammer?!

It’s just you. In most cases, the Gravity Hammer is effectively a worse Energy Sword. You don’t get the speed boost, the lunge distance, the swing rate, or the the guaranteed one-shot of the Energy Sword. The only real reason you would use a Hammer over a Sword is when you are against an enemy with a Sword, or a vehicle, in which case you may still want the Sword to be able to rush and hijack more effectively. If not for the lunge with Smart-Link, Hammer would not even be a viable alternative to Sword, because it is the best way to ensure a kill in such a fast-paced game.

I just happened to be at the right spot at the right time. This clip should explain the rest. I also edited my previous comment which includes footage of me destroying the enemy core with a Gravity Hammer…on two occasions. I’m quite the nutcase, aren’t I?

That seems like something I would try to do.

Oh yeah? Try destroying a Wasp…

…with a Ground Pound. I managed to do this once. Sadly, I don’t have any footage… :frowning:

Or try to ninja a person who has a Gavel. I don’t have any footage and it was messy.

Uh… no?

Valid question. I’m beyond impressed
