Is Infinite the worst game since ET?

Thank you very much. That game actually crossed my mind but I didn’t think someone here would dig up the Atari. Have a good one :kissing_heart:

Must have very low standards

halo has a fantastic weapons sandbox and a great campaign, however it has some basic flaws rn. there is no forge, and cross play coop is missing as well tho regular coop is in which is good. is is good to add more content to the game is good with seasons the core elements of the game must be present 1st and stable. once that is achieved then live service functions can be prioritized, but until then i think that 343 should put the live service stuff on hold.

With Bethesda, Forza, and now Call of Duty? I doubt it. Halo also isn’t as bad as ET. The game has issues, but I can name other games with worse issues that have recently come out (such as BF 2042).

ET for the Atari 2600 is a huge success contrast to Halo Infinite when you consider that ET managed to be one of the best selling games on the console despite having a short development time. Under a month the game was done by one dev. This was during a time when game development was very brutal and far worse than the industry today.

Factor in the fact the game works unlike Infinite, can be completed and has nothing game breaking illustrates your title is insulting. Halo Infinite I guaranteed sold worse than Guardians and even lower than ET. ET cracked 2.7 million sales. Accounting inflation at the time, is quite a lot. Guardians had 5 million.

There is no way Infinite sold 2 million as evident of it only having campaign for $60. That’s robbery. To conclude, no. Infinite is not the worst game since ET. In fact ET didn’t cause an industry crash. Tell me how a game that is top ten (I believe number 6th best) selling game on the system crashed an entire industry in North America? It’s propaganda and a scapegoat. The industry crashed for many reasons at the time, not just because of one game. That’s silly, impossible and ignorant.

What a incredibly stupid thing to ask.

But then again, in this day and age, I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised… A pity. 2022 for you.

I believe those franchises (except maybe forza) have followers on other consoles and PC. With infinite being borderline unplayable in multiplayer, PC is the only way to go. If developers like 343 are making Xbox a second/third tier system for the games, what’s the value in an Xbox for online gaming?

Good points. Agree with your thoughts, I do.

How so? The game has issues on both sides, but that doesn’t mean that console players can’t play at all.

Well, Xbox isn’t 2nd/3rd tier. Some games are struggling, but it isn’t terrible since there are other great games to play. I’d say second tier consoles are the Steam Deck (as of right now) and the Nintendo Switch. Third tier consoles? Probably Google’s Stadia, which flopped hard.

Just saying, anyone even thinking they are doing a good job given the fact that it’s 2022 that 343 literally had all the resources that ever needed, and have had since they started development on Halo 4. That is 100% false given the fact of the vary poor state this game is in at the moment that players are dropping like flies.

It will take almost 3 years at the rate 343 is working with all the issues the game has to get a complete game, but who knows if it will be a functional one. It’s absurd for any triple A gaming company to be in this position in this day and age with one of the biggest banks in the world backing them up.

Different time, different scenario

BUT I don’t know any other AAA studio that has had 4 consecutive major launch failures for a franchise, even the poor quality ones like Ubisoft or EA. MCC, 5 and Infinite i’d regard as some of the worst launches and/or launch recoveries in the industry at large.

The main contribution 343 had to CE anniversary which was the remastered graphics were the worst part of that release, spartan assault or strike aren’t great, neither is fireteam raven. Halo wars 2 is the best thing released since they took over and it’s an ok game that died pretty fast.

The only franchise I think that’s as or more mishandled than 343 Halo is Sonic, aside from that what franchise has remained this consistently bad? CoD comes close but I truly believe 343 has done worse, especially given it’s 1 studio vs 3.

There are worse games, but it seems like movies, TV, and games are all reaching for the lowest bar now.
343 as a company isn’t getting stronger, from the outside we have been able to witness the instability and unrest inside the company. Every year, over-hauling and changing gameplay mechanics and player movement to me say they don’t know where they are going.

They are not revolutionizing anything, they just can’t make stuff work and so every release more changes, and HELLO how many more controller settings do we need, other games I pick up the controller pick my button scheme set the sensitivity, and go, but for Halo Infinite, holy crap.
343 here’s an idea, create a YouTube video explaining all the settings and what they do, why am I relying on streamers to try to break it down, and everyone with a different opinion on what is what. 343 you are a seasoned company, how about a timetable and road map where you are going, what’s going to be released.
Where is the vision, it would like if an artist was going to paint a mural on my wall and showed me the concept for the job and I say Ya that’s good, but when it’s done all I see is brown paint with a few blotches and I say what happened, and the painter says … Ya, it didn’t really pan out, it was going to be too hard, so I gave you this, but next time, wow!

Many other companies have promos for their games and much of the time when I play the game it’s not for me, but what was in the promo is actually in the game, but that’s not 343’s approach.

This hasn’t been the case since Halo Reach at the latest honestly, maybe Halo 4 if you factor in the hype for the title at the time. At least not in the capacity you’re suggesting.

It WAS the reason at one point up till the early 10’s but the gaming industry has transcended exclusivity to the point where the most popular titles across all consoles are no longer the ones tied to console manufacturer exclusivity.

While exclusives remain as a minor factor in gamer choice of their consoles, bigger factors that influence console choice include peer demographics, personal “legacy” involvement (how long you’ve been involved with the brand), performance, and overall value.

Console exclusive titles are much less of a dominant force that they were and more of a fun perk that comes with your console of choice. Look no further than these once powerful first party titles being represented as cameos in universal titles like Fortnite, CSGO, Minecraft, or Among Us. Or the inclusion of these “console exclusives” popping up more frequently as an official launch on PC.

Solid title. Wish I got into it when it was in its prime.

33-50% games have cheating/hacking going on. There is no defense against the modded weapons. The problem is exacerbated by teammates dropping out and bots filling in. If the consoles are given no reprisal from modified game matches, then they are at least 2nd tier. The slower consoles (older generations) cannot produce the same frame rate so they are another tier lower as those players are at a double disadvantage. Developers under the MS umbrella treating the Xbox like this, there is minimal reason to use it for online gaming.

Great points. Something for me to think about.

It’s normal to have a disadvantage when you choose to play on a very old console. Why should someone who spends 500 bucks for a new console be forced to play at a lower framerate?

This ^ this is a real thing. And I agree with what is being said about the older generation Xbox. My son has to play on it to match games with me and I gotta admit it’s terrible
