Let me preface this with I love Halo. I very much want this game, especially with the open world idea. I just don’t think it’s worth it.
We’re only going to have to buy the campaign.
I mean, Halo 5 is what happens when 343 doesn’t have Bungie’s notes holding their hands through the story. Halo 5’s campaign is probably the greatest disappointment since No Man’s Sky’s launch, and now I’m expected to pay 60$ for the sequel’s campaign? Why would I do that? I mean, the story in Halo 5 was so boring that I’d be comfortable just saying to myself “Halo 4 was the end, goodbye and goodnight.” So it’s kind of hard to imagine Infinite being some kind of breakthrough worthy of Bungie’s storytelling. It’ll probably be mediocre at best. I mean, we’re in the middle of a pandemic where people have lost their jobs and don’t have a ton of money and all that junk. Why would I pay $60 for a campaign, when literally every other $60 game gives me significantly more content?
(Update)
It seems like the consensus is that none of the Halo campaigns are worth 60$, which is totally fair. Since Halo Infinite can currently be pre-ordered for 60$, I can definitively say that No the game is not going to be worth that much. In the off chance that the campaign offers 30 full length missions, I would change my tune, seeing as that’s twice that of Halo 2. 343, do us a favor and don’t make the missions Ghost Recon short, unless you plan to make a couple hundred of them.
Not matching the hyped up story of the advertising.
Not enough Chief.
Taking those factors out of the equation I quite liked it. It suffered like most middle parts of a trilogy… it didn’t have the wow of part I or any of the satisfying conclusions of part III.
As for $60… we don’t know the pricing. Besides, Microsoft doesn’t want your $60… they want you to buy Game Pass… and then fund the ongoing costs (servers and DLC) with multiplayer microtransactions. So the up front cost is probably a bit moot.

I’d disagree that Halo 5 wasn’t hot garbage. It felt like it was entirely filler. The whole of the important plot was covered in 3 missions while the rest was just a matter of follow the Chief. Nothing meaningful happened character development wise, and the plot suffered for it.
True, but what I’ve heard so far is 60. If it turns out to be half, or less, this point will indeed be moot.
I think it’ll depend. If they charge &60 I’d note I’m one of those people who will actually expect more because of multiplayer no longer being part of that $60, because of that, the campaign expectations go up to justify that price.
I expect a campaign that’s decent in hours played and then there’s the quality of it that can’t be looked at until it’s out. I personally doubt and I’m very pessimistic on it justifying $60 to be honest, the last few games haven’t had good campaigns to me anyways and I can count that as looking at a track record: and say it’s unlikely infinites campaign will be worth playing to me anyways (and yes I’m 50/50 on getting it or not getting the game).
Plus 343 and microsoft just keep adding bad publicity to the game lol.
Honestly from what I’ve seen so far with the demo…I’d probably say no since that’s the multiplayer is going free to play, which usually means mindless grind unlocks or some depressing lottery unlock system.
Plus sort of no full game due to downloadable restrictions, which means no full physical copy due to content being restricted to download only, well the E3 demo itself was quite underwhelming. I’m sure I’ll buy it when it comes out but I don’t think 343i have made a strong main game story so far plus with the misleading HuntTheTruth campaign it’s made it difficult to tell if 343i can make a campaign that makes 343i stand out from Bungie’s Halo days.
I think this is the first time I’m not genuinely excited for a Halo game since I can’t tell if it’s going to be good or bad since didn’t like 4 or 5 but I did like HW2 except for the pay to win Blitz mode.
I’ve always purchased halo for the campaign. 343i said in terms of size that it is larger than the previous two halos combined. Whether that is taken literally in terms of the actual size of playable areas (which I’m leaning towards) or the amount of time it will take to complete; I’m not sure. I still will be purchasing regardless because I only buy maybe 1-3 games a year (less than that since halo is a once every 5+year game).
Personally I don’t expect a 60 dollar purchase for just the campaign. To justify that price you’d have to have an incredibly long and expansive story to justify that price. Which if it is I’d be fine with, but I wouldn’t pay 60 dollars for any of the other Halo’s previous campaigns.

I agree here as well. The previous campaign H5 had potential to be great with cortana defecting and what not but the way it was executed left a lot of the table. I actually liked the H4 campaign/story.
the gaming industry as a whole is kinda screwy in this manner. Any of the sports games really charge $60 for an updated roster and graphics (which at that point I’d rather just download a mew roster on a previous game). Considering this is a new story (or continuation; I still haven’t really figured that out) by comparison, I’m still on board for purchasing an actual hard copy of the game.

In my case liking the story has nothing to do with the price. Halo 2 has my favorite campaign and I really enjoyed Reach and Halo 4’s as well. But to justify a 60$ price tag I would expect more than any of those games in regard to story if it was priced at 60$
I’d hope they have more to offer players who buy the game than just the Campaign. They have to deliver a worthy story for me to want to spend $60 dollars for that alone, and given what we’ve seen so far of the Campaign(heck, Infinite in general), I don’t exactly have much confidence in a product that’s worth its price. The Multiplayer being completely free also doesn’t help warrant the price tag, but I’m wondering to what extent the game is actually going to be free. Their promise of the Campaign being bigger than Halo 4 and 5’s combined is not exactly promising, but its hard to really say the value of the Campaign from what we know about it right now. I know that it isn’t worth the $60 tag right now, with all we know.
I’m not sure how 343 plans to divide up features for the free Multiplayer and the $60 dollar Campaign. They haven’t said how the Multiplayer will work in terms of what is considered free and what isn’t beyond the Campaign and Multiplayer, which is…vague, at that. Campaign could come with access to Forge or other gamemodes, possibly Firefight. I can’t imagine 343 splitting Custom Games and Theater from the Multiplayer, though, but I might be wrong.
It’d be nice for 343 to clear up what is going to be free and what isn’t, alongside what exactly we’re paying for $60 dollars other than a Campaign, if anything. If there isn’t anything else alongside that Campaign though, more details about what the Campaign has to offer us would definitely be appreciated.

Standard Edition can be preordered right now at Best Buy for $60. I’m pretty sure its not going to change immediately after release. I don’t know a AAA game that released that did not have a standard edition pre-order that was equal to its release price.
I’m cautiously optimistic with what they’re doing with the Game but whether it is WORTH $60 straight out of the gate to me really depends on what you can do in the Campaign, the Multiplayer, and Other Modes from the get go.
Like What features included with the Purchase, What are if any Multiplayer Bonuses that the Players get for Paying for the Game when the MP is going Free, CO-OP Features for the Campaign and Other Modes not yet announced yet, Whatever those Unknown Modes turn out being, and how they actually plan on adding on the Story after it is out since they got that “10 Year” Plan going on.
I currently have Gamepass so I’m covered in that I will get the Game with it but if for some reason I decided not to have Gamepass anymore in the Future after Release I would have to think about what I played of Infinite through Gamepass if it is worth owning Individually presumably still at the $60 Price Tag.
Given that we don’t know everything about the game yet, I feel as though the question you ask is better suited to be answered after the games release. We just don’t know what features are going to be included at launch at this time to warrant a high price tag.
I don’t see how they can make a campaign which is worth $60 given what they’ve shown so far (last-gen visuals, generic open world design, meh gameplay) and where the story was left after Halo 5 (lol). That said, best just to wait and see what the final product winds up being.
Well, we don’t entirely know that the Campaign is all that we will be buying.
For instance, we know the Multiplayer is free to play. But we don’t know what that entails. Will it include the entire multiplayer package? Or will it only encompass Arena, or the rumored Battle Royale-esque mode that won’t be ‘called’ Battle Royale? Will it include any PVE style non-campaign modes (such as Firefight, Warzone, or Spartan Ops). Will it include the ability to unlock multiplayer achievements? Will it include multiplayer character model customization? Will it include Forge? Theatre? Will it allow us to play Ranked Playlists, or will we be limited to Social? Will we even be able to matchmake or will we be limited to Custom Games?
We really don’t know how much of the game will be included in the free-to-play package. So we can’t necessarily define whether $60 will be worth the price tag. But I’ll still be getting it even if only to play the Campaign. As a committed fan for 15 years I want to personally experience where the story goes from here firsthand. But I can totally understand that a lot of Halo fans are here for the multiplayer, and if the free-to-play component satisfies them I have no problems with them enjoying it that way. I have several friends that would likely skip Infinite altogether if not for it being free, because they really didn’t like Halo 4, or 5. I didn’t really like them either but I’m ever hopeful that one day I’ll love a new Halo game again.

Really well stated…it all boils down to what they consider part of the package in terms of campaign related and multiplayer related. For all we know this battle royale might be the only feature for the F2P multiplayer (similar to Fortnite) while other modes in arena, may have to be purchased? It’s honestly a guessing game until we get more info

also, I think you have a poor expectation of what “next gen” is. We are running into an area of diminishing returns when it comes to graphical fidelity. There are issues with optimization (at least in the demo) but I would not expect anything really being “wow” visually that was not already achieved on last-gen hardware. It’s just gonna run and load better

Nah, I’m playing games on my PC right now that have 10x better visuals than what I saw from Infinite, which can definitely “wow”, especially with ray tracing. Infinite looks bad. Obviously a game designed to run on midrange 2013 hardware.
