So a year and a half ago, I met a guy with the classic Helioskrill and I told him that it was a cool armor set. In return he told me to beat MCC on legendary and there began a week long solo grind to get the armor. A year later I look around and see that most people have the variants which makes me question, is Helioskrill even special? I mean in halo 3 there was Recon and Hayabusa, 4 had Chief’s armor with his visor.
Halo 5 has no legendary reward (except a cutscene) and the pre-order “Fotus” armor can be unlocked in the game. The MCC was supposed to award armor for the people who challenged themselves, yet you can just bypass it with req packs. So what’s the point of grinding Helioskrill anymore?
I mean, was it really that big of deal before? I got it with bandana and scarab on. I think thats been disabled now though. If so i would say its technically more of an accomplishment now lol
I’m slowly grinding through the MCC Campaigns on Legendary to get the armour. Even if I unlock it via Req packs in Halo 5 before I complete the campaigns, I am still not going to allow myself to wear it until I beat them all on legendary.
I’m not sure anymore. Helioskrill is my all time favorite Spartan armor but your right, it has lost its uniqueness. Not to mention there is a chance it can drop from Gold packs now, so now it’s just a cool set and nothing more. Still never going to change my armor, I earned it the hard way!
Is it a different colorway? If so, I’d say it’s worth it. I don’t use the helioskrill that I unlocked from req packs because it has this annoying pink colorway on it that doesn’t match much.

It’s not special anymore that they put it in the req system. Beating all campaigns in MCC on legendary is still an accomplishment. You don’t and shouldn’t have to be rewarded with a digital trinket to accomplish something, although it is nice. Between Helioskrill, then them releasing sticker shock in a req pack they really should just release every armor/skin in some sort of req pack at this point, yes even Achilles. Seeing how nothing remains an exclusive to anything as 343 has shown.

There’s a few things you could/can accomplish, like my Timmy helmet, and there’s also the Olive helmet which is really tough to get.

Timmy is more of a grind helmet. Olive is a genuine achievement though, yes. the only real one in Halo 5.

Even that’s debatable. If you don’t forge for a living there’s no way you’ll get a map picked by 343, and even then the maps they pick for certain gamemodes are hit & miss.

Still better than randomness. I’d assume you really need to advertise your map to people in order to get 343 to look at it.
Sadly it’s just modern games now, “Can’t get it? pay for it” deal. I myself have grinded to do all halo’s 1-4 on Solo Legendary and I got the what used to be my loved armor, but after like 2 months, you can see everyone roaming around with that armor like ants and I too questioned “Where’s the uniqueness of this anymore” another being the sticker skins (I am a LootCrate subscriber so I got it legit) I mean it’s nothing SPECIAL to me but I like to know that I got something special than just grinding my time to get it but now BOOM you can get it by reqs, loosing it’s specialty.
Idk what 343i were thinking (Except money of course) but I found it very insulting to tell us to do a chore and just get an early access to an armor, who knows maybe Achilles / Olive / 343i’s weapon skin will be up for god knows how much reqs.
I hope 343i sorts this out in halo 6 cause I’m starting to hate seeing something that was so rare become a common thing. perhaps do halo 5 LASO to get some sweet -Yoink- helmet like haunted (it’ll fit with the theme of the effort) for halo 6, who knows? 343i knows that’s for sure.

That’s the spirit. I wear it because I did just that, and I got it before it was placed in the req pool. It’s just a matter of personal pride to use this armor knowing it was earned the hard way.
It was awarded for being four games on legendary that you’ve played a hundred times already. All the routes, tricks, and tactics mastered, memorized, and tested for years before Helioskrill and MCC were a thing. Is it REALLY that much of an achievement?! You beat a thirteen year old game, a ten year old game, a seven year old game, and a two year old game on Legendary. Again. For probably the millionth time. Wow, you really earned that piece of armor.
