I love Halo and to me one of the biggest events of the year is a new Halo game. But when I watch videos and go on to forums about the top ten upcoming games of 2011/2012, I can never see any Halo games. Is Halo’s great reputation dying?
Halo: Reach was not was I expecting. When I see and play other games, Halo seems to be lacking action and adventure. Halo: Reach was good, it just wasn’t amazing. The game just didn’t live up to the trailer or the Halo universe. I was under the impression Reach would be a One Final Effort epic battle, like jumping of ships, riding hogs into huge battles, flying out of control and bailing and heaps of hardcore action.
It didn’t live up to any of these.
In other games (Such as COD), you are doing exciting things and you’re part of hardcore action. However, you don’t have much control during these moments. Halo is sandbox-like in terms of gameplay and you normally control all the exciting things that happen. Unfortunately there won’t any exciting moments in Reach.
I hope 343 Industries will grab the worlds attention again in Halo 4. I want to see Halo at the top of every list for games. Halo is no longer the epic, edge cutting game it used to be. But the Halo univers is too amazing to leave behind and I just hope Halo 4 will be just as epic, amazing and memorable as Halo: CE was.
Thanks to Bungie for making Halo and for 343 Industries continuing in their legacy.
I can’t see Halo 4 being as big as the other games, mainly because the final games always used to be lacking in singleplayer experience. I remember just before Halo 3 came out, everyone was excited to finish the fight. But just like Halo 2, Halo 3 had too much cut content (okay, probably not as much as Halo 2, but still quite a bit). Reach also suffered from this. Of course this could be due to the fact that Microsoft are so damn strict with release dates and just want to rush everything out all of the time simply because it makes them money, but still, the short singleplayer and cut content tend to put people off after a while. Especially when it keeps happening.
It’s up to 343i to change that. If they do a good job on Halo 4’s Campaign, it’ll be very popular and people will be just dying to get Halo 5.
From what I’ve heard Halo 4 is going to be a long singleplayer adventure. It is also set in an area that we’ve never gotten to see before which is going to be awesome. The concept art looks great.
If anything, a decrease is definitely noticeable. And more if anything, there’s a lot of fans who haven’t given up just yet.
Fans have been craving a Combat Evolved remake for so long now, and 343i did the right thing to deliver it to them, because it just may bring back any fans that lost hope for Halo after Reach. Population increase. It was also a smart move for them to have the multiplayer the same as Reach, because those who will buy CEA, which will probably be at least a million people, they would also strive for multiplayer goodness eventually, thus increases the population even more. You also have to think about the amount of new people wanting to get into the Halo franchise. That may be a big number, and with the remastering of the original, it’s the perfect opportunity. Population increase.
Of course, there’s no way to calculate how many people there will be left when time passes by after the release of Anniversary. It could stay consistent to a great heap amount of people, or it will be more or less. Now, that’s where Halo 4 comes in.
Who knows how much of Halo will revive to the dead after Reach.

I agree, the concept art does look great, also 343i have promised a development on Master Chief’s character. I know that the Halo community have mixed opinions on whether this is a good or bad thing, but to me it’s a good thing. The soundtrack that was played in the concept art trailer was awesome too.
I stayed with Halo 3 for 3 years and I barely started playing anything else. This was because it had original gameplay and so many new features. I still remember all those fun times I had in custom games and matchmaking. Besides the ability to find good games, there was Bungie favourites. Even though it was hard to get your work recognised, it meant I could easily find good gametypes and maps without scanning and testing pages of games. Most of the games I find in Halo: Reach’s most downloaded/recommended are ones like “Recommend to fifty friends for 500000 credits.” I can’t believe people actually believe that stuff. But yeah, good multiplayer = long lasting community.
A new world awaits in Halo 4 in both figuratively and literally. With a new world comes a new start, and hope. I await patiently for what is in store for us. I personally have high hopes for 343’s tale of the continuation of Master Chief and what possibilities we may have access to due to this new world and the technology that is behind it (in both the game world and our own for the game itself).

Well Halo 4 is the start of a new (reclaimer) trilogy and has the near limitless power of the Halo universe backing it up. As well as an incredible team who are named after my favourite annoying light bulb, 343 Industries. With their talent and passion combined with their experiences and LOVE for Halo, I find it hard not to support them. I believe that 343 Industries can advance and improve on where Bungie left off and also focus on story, characters, gameplay and the fans.
I think Halo perhaps took a hit with Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach. And not because either of those games were bad games, in my opinion at least anyway. I enjoy them both. But I don’t think they lived up to a lot of other people’s expectations. With the new Reclaimer trilogy though, I can see Halo becomming top dog again, a la the days of the original trilogy. That is what I hope will happen anyway. Halo deserves to be on top.

I agree. Reach was lacking in plot, even if it did have good characters. I’m hoping this is more of a mystery/adventure sort of campaign.

Personally I didn’t think much to Halo 3 as well as Reach. ODST wasn’t too bad, for a standalone expansion.
Among the hardcore fans Halo went downhill with Reach, but Halo in general hasn’t really suffered. A lot of people compare it to COD but that makes little difference. Halo Reach has more people playing each day than the other Halo games had but COD has 10x that amount.
So Halo isn’t less popular, it’s just that COD is wildly popular in comparison.

Reach was in development for 3 years. I don’t think thats too short a development time. I would hardly call it rushed at any rate.
I think it’s actually that people won’t happy with Reach so they started on other games instead. When I got sick of Reach, I instantly went online and found rumours of a Halo CE remake (This was last year of course). After a while of waiting for something to do with Halo to be announced, I almost started on other game series, then 343 Industries announced their plans for the future. If there announcement was any later, I would’ve given up on Halo and I would probably be playing Assasin’s Creed right now.
