Is Halo Wars 2 more important than Halo 5 atm?

ATM = At the moment

I know we got a slew of new content coming out over the next few days, including Fire Fight, but has the focus now shifted on Halo Wars 2? Is it possible Halo 5 as a game has officially reached it’s “lifespan end” with the conclusion of the DLC-campaign? Lots of word has been spread about continued support, but that’s easier said than done and there’s that issue of lost trust, too.

Personally, I don’t play as often as I’d want, and it feels a bit like a chore to get myself into games when I do, but that’s a different story. I’ve seen a lot of news and hype for HW2, and I’d expect that, but kind of feels like anything right now not named H5: Guardians would be OK with the Halo community.

Real time strategy (RTS) isn’t my strong suite, if you can call brief stints with Age of Empires and The Sims as part of the RTS-genre, then yea I didn’t have too much fun with those titles. I’d be open to a RPG-like kind of Halo, maybe with a open world style (GTA/Saints Row) but keep the essence of a FPS intact (think Division here).

So I go back to my original topic: With Call of Duty and Battlefield on schedule for a fall release, is the lifeline for Halo, in general, hinging on the success of Halo Wars 2 while Guardians slips into oblivion, maybe like MCC did?

Halo 5 has much more weight then the MCC and frankly, I think that halo wars 2 isn’t going to sell much at all, it’s not a genre that really appeals to many. I think however that halo 5 will be fine. More content is coming after June.

Psssshhh, nah… couldn’t care less about it honestly.

They are different developers. It may be more important for commercial reasons so like TV and trailer stuff. However from a developer standpoint, 343 is only involved when it comes to story, everything else is done by creative assembly and Blur.

As Junky said, HW2 is a game made for a certain nich of fans and players. Its not a flag ship title and is only getting the attention its getting because its the new game in the world of halo. Its not going to replace H5 for the majority of players and wont mean the end for H5 in the development sense.

with Xbox Play Anywhere, it’s going to be a very well selling title.

People are forgetting that windows players are getting it too.

It isn’t more popular.
RTS aren’t as popular as FPS.
It’s just HW2 is coming out so there is more advertisement.

What do you guys think to the health of the Halo franchise? Another Halo-related title that flops isn’t a good sign for the future? I just really hope there’s some news about the continued support in the following weeks, we’ve already know about Fire Fight for a while now and even the general release time frame, so I’m anxious to see what’s in store after June.

Halo wars 2 is more important than halo 5 because one reason only. It’s the next step in the story and expands the lore.

I have every halo game, besides hw1 and maybe 4, they were reviewed greatly and everyone loves them, as a halo fanboy, defends it like I am in the war. If it flops, it won’t hurt it too much, since no one likes rts as much as fps, after Reach things started to go downhill but I think 343 it catching themselves before they truly destroy one of the most legendary and influential franchises, point is it will do better than infinite warfare, so no worries man. Halo has a story good enough that I’ll play it when I’m 60 with the release of halo 17 or halo wars 6, as long as they get the cortana epiphany and all ai go to hell progressed through nicely and not rushed, I have high hopes.

For marketing? Yes.

But the beta was fairly lukewarm and I’m not so certain about it anymore

After “waiting for other players” during a match for about 20 min then getting kicked out. I immediately lost interest in halo wars 2.

Yep. Ridiculous match times and being kicked out with the beta not working no matter how much I try to make it work made me disinterested in the game already.

Doesn’t help that it doesn’t come out till feb next year. Truly amateur hour over at microsoft.

People are hyped for Halo Wars 2 and they should be. I on the other hand am not one of them mainly because I’m not a fan of RTS games. Halo 6 is currently the only game that I’m super hyped for right now.

I own all of the Halo games except Halo Wars and I won’t be buying HW2. I’ll be seeing the cutscenes on youtube when it comes out but that’s it.
