Is Halo: The Flood any good?

So I ordered Halo The Flood per my friends recommendation as he says if you like Halo CE’s story it’s a good telling from other perspectives, so if any of you have any opinions I’d love to here them :stuck_out_tongue:

Its a good book that gets to much flak in my opinion.

At times its feels like the author played the game what with his description of events down to the last bit in the chief chapters, but theirs also the marine resistance and there battle to survive and get off halo witch I found enjoyable, and some cool bits of keys last hours, as well as an spec ops elite that just cant kill chief.

Well worth the read id say.

I heard it’s like listening to someone talking about them playing the game, can’t wait to see the other perspectives though

Yes exactly what I mean by his “description of events”.

He also dose a bit with a marine going though flood transformation.

This.

I didn’t much enjoy the “gameplay” portions of the novel, but I loved the side stuff.

But, that’s kind of a big challenge when writing a novel based on the events of a game. I’d recommend it just for the side stories in the novel. Really cool and interesting stuff. Plus, ODSTs! :stuck_out_tongue:

The gameplay interpretation lacks touch, but I definitely love Zuka’s story and that poor grunt Yayap… Yayap’s story had an awesome ending. I like when the books show the Covenant species also have feelings (except for the Drones, which do not seem to be very sentient)

Here’s my honest opinion of Halo: The Flood…

It’s great for the CONTENT we get and the characters we get, but I just could not agree with the writer’s style. Dietz was a bit too vulgar and gritty, and not in the good way. Could you argue it fit the situation? Sure. But personally I would wager the when-and-where for him using it wasn’t the best at times.

All in all, I’d definitely say it’s a worthwhile read and the stories set into it that we don’t see in the game are enjoyable. It’s just the writer’s style that doesn’t agree with me.

Read the story with Black Team and the Unmutual in Halo: Evolutions. That story evokes a sense of understanding and care about how Drone society is. I for one actually really appreciated the existence of the Drones after reading that selection.

Good to know, thanks! I still do not have Evolutions, so I have not read it…

Now here is Ollie Williams with my opinion on The Flood, Ollie.

Which is awesome to hear about, play.lol

lol, i got kick out of that one. OP, i heard its a good book, but i haven’t read it in a while due to school related books.

The Flood was the first real evidence we saw of the Master Chief having a geas. This portion was present in the original release. If you know what a geas is, you will spot it immediately.

<<Incoming opinion>>

It used to be the “worst” of the Halo novels, only because it was largely descriptive of gameplay and cutscenes, and wasn’t too “creative” in that regard.

Then along came Karen Traviss and the Kilo Five trilogy.

Go for it, OP. The Flood isn’t too bad.
