Hi everyone. I need this answered. Is halo based on the bible and anything else like it? I need to know cause I have a lot of fond memories of halo and I don’t want those to be washed away. How much of this game us based on it. It’s kinda wired knowing a game this great is based on a religouse book… I heard that even John 117 is in the bible. Plz get back to me. I need closure. I don’t have a problem with it. I just find it strange that everything is in the bible. I’m hoping that this is just a coincidence. Idk of any other games like this. Thx. Oh and Plz help me. I just need to know. I thought halo was a made up game not a biblical one again I don’t really have a big problem with this and I don’t mean to offend anyone. Thx
Masterchief is in the bible?
Which Bible were you reading? Can I have it?
Halo has many biblical references. I would list them all but it would take a long time. So here’s a link a Halo wiki article on all the biblical references.
Hope this helps =)

Hello. You were very helpful. I looked at this site. But ate any other games based on a biblical book? This news is kinda ruining my old halo memories. I thought halo was a creative game. Not a biblical one. It makes me wonder if everything on halo is in the bible. It’s just weird. Plz help me out. Is the whole game series really just the bible in a game. I’m confused. Thx in advance.
Halo has something called Biblical analogies. It basically just uses names from the Bible to enhance their importance. The Flood and Ark are good examples.
There’s terminology and references, but no, halo’s story is not in the bible.
The fall of the forerunners is reminiscent of the Noah’s Ark story, but is different in a great many ways.
There was a John who became a bishop or something in the year 117 AD/CE, but that’s about where the similarities end.
The Ark, and the Covenant, have nothing to do with the Ark of the Covenant.

> Awww…did the poor wittle atheist get he feewings hurt because someone alluded to The Bible?

> Dude…grow up. Honestly…your statements are, at best, a thinly veiled attempt at flaming religion. So what if the story of Halo has a few allegories. Big whoop. You must have really hated Halo 3 ODST. Remember that time Dutch said “Lord, I didn’t train to be a pilot…”? I bet you were really offended when he said “Amen”.

Discussing religions is not allowed, and you should respect, at least on the forums, every position, atheism too.
The guy made no anti-christian statements, he just doesn’t like the perspective of a video game taking thematics from the bible, but did not offend christianity, instead you where unkind with atheists. He clearly said that he didn’t want to offend anyone.
Wasn’t it against the rules, I would enjoy taking this discussion to another level, analyzing your post on a psychological-religious level, with lot’s of provocative references to christianity’s past.
As for the topic, when we, as humans, produce something new, we use our precedent knowledge, and bible is part of this. But not only that, also other mythology, or ancient cultures as roman, greek, Japanese. There are recurring themes in every human production, and the references in halo are not only to the bible, but to much of our culture.
We, as philologists, perhaps have concentrated too much on bible aspects, ignoring others. But there are some who have pointed out extremely interesting references to other areas of our culture. For example for the covenant, as it is a theocratic empire, the references are to christian religion, but for sangheili culture the references are to ancient human cultures.

I don’t let the fact that in Halo the Forerunners re-created humans again after the halo’s fired get in my way of enjoying the series Just because in the lore the pre-cursors created all the species doesn’t make me not enjoy playing Halo. But that’s i’m going to say on this subject. It’s against the Forum’s rules to discuss religion so this is all I will say.

xNaked Crookx: How very Christian of you.
Atheist or not, it’s really not that big of a deal. Biblical references are no different from Norse or Greek references. It’s all mythology.

Just pointing this out I AM NOT ATHIEST. Which ever idiot said that is a little gamer. No one memorizes game quotes or plays odst any more. Thx for all who helped me out. I wanted a simple question answered not for a giant production to start. Thx again. Oh and now that this whole issue started I need to know how to erase posts. So no one even the wittle faggy gamer gets in trouble. Thx
