Before I start this, let me go on record as saying that despite how awesome it sounds to have a Halo-esq future for humanity, it would obviously be quite dangerous and highly unlikely. Now, I’ll get on with it. After playing through the games, reading some of the books, and spending hours on Waypoint and the Wikis, is there anyone else out there who thinks that a Halo-like future may be in store for us? The concept of a centralized UN govt. with a devoted R&D dept. to discover new technology to propel us into space colonization seems very possible to me, albeit not necessarily soon. We’re on the verge of creating AIs now, and soon advancements in engineering could allow us to effectively colonize Mars and the Moon. Consider this thread just a dumping grounds for a variety of things (the future of humanity, advanced technology, possibility of sentient life, is the mantle a real thing??, etc.) and feel free to go into depth on what you think, as long as it has some sort of tie to the Halo universe we know and love. Fire away!
I’ve thought about this and I think it’s likely after we overcome today’s problems such as terrorism, corruption, poverty, and tension between countries.
It’s nigh impossible that there aren’t other sentient peoples out in the deep, but I’m doubtful if any civilizations have come to the Forerunner’s tier in our galaxy.
As for AIs, Microsoft Cortana has a long way to go
I agree. In my eyes, we’re only 50-75 years away from a centralized world government like the UN. As for sentient life, there’s no doubt in my mind they’re out there somewhere. Of course, they may not be as advanced as Forerunners or even the Covenant. However, using today’s visual capabilities, we couldn’t see their civilization as it actually is. Light simply doesn’t travel fast enough, we would be viewing their world as it was millions of years ago. While that may be a long stretch, some of the human technology of Halo seems pretty plausible to me. Admittedly, we are far far away from smart AIs like the Cortana of Halo, but we are making huge strides in the field of computers and it won’t be long before we see basic AIs running cities and large-scale operations like the Superintendent of ODST. On top of that, advancements in engineering will make suits like the MJOLNIR armor available within this century, I believe. Perhaps things will not be on the grand scale they are in the Halo Universe, but basic elements of the lore such as Biofoam, Titanium-A plating, AIs, and even artificial gravity may soon be reality. I think that’s truly fascinating!
Time will tell, I’m hoping that this could the future (not exactly).

At least we’d get to see what the Jiralhanae did before they almost made themselves extinct and lost most of their technology.
Yes
I don’t see why one day humans will move to other planets to the point of having multiple worlds across space. I’d say I’d probably be most fearful of the Flood if Halo was our future. I mean can you just imagine sitting on whatever planet you were born in and hearing the news that not that far away two planets have been taken over and wiped out by the infecting organism that doesn’t seem to be slowing down and the amount of panic that would cause.
I do think there is life out there somewhere and maybe one day our children’s children and so on will have the pleasure of venturing out there and finding out themselves. I do really hope there isn’t anything like the flood though.
I don’t know if I would like halo to be our future quite honestly.

I agree wholeheartedly. The Flood is something to be afraid of if a similar life form exists somewhere. In the Forerunner trilogy the Primordial describes the Flood as “the future”, a life that absorbs all and creates one, homogenous species. That’s the real threat in finding sentient life out there.
Well Microsoft has made Cortana and we have steroids which are technically Augmentations lol.
I would like a Halo like future, but I see private companies pioneering the exploration into space, not a one world government. I don’t like the idea of the UN running everything.

Also a valid point. Corporations like SpaceX and -Yoink!- are on the forefront of lowering the cost to send mass to space today. I could honestly see it going either way, depending on a stabilization of global conflict and another big push from government to expand space research again like in the Cold War. Either way, I want to see the beginnings of space colonization in my lifetime.

Why not?
(In context: Running everything, I get, that would work about as well as the USSR did. But why not space travel, I mean, we have public transport, and some countries have national airlines, why not public sector space travel?)
Even if yes,we would never find it out.
50/50
I hope not. The only way it woukd take us 500 years to reach the UNSC’s level of technology is if we have another dark age.

I’m with you on this one. Seeing as how power is becoming increasingly centralized, I could easily see a public sector space institution developing in the near future. Perhaps under the right leaders, a centralized govt. could buy out a privatized company (SpaceX, -Yoink!-, etc.) and use their resources/personnel in combination with the clout and power of a large govt. to create a feasible space travel system. I would love to be able to take a trip out there just to see the vast beyond at some point in my life.

how do we over come these issues

maybe one say we can take a vacation to mars
Yes, Microsoft built a super-secret time machine back in '01 in Australia. They wanted to send a baby who was native born, someone from a line of legendary people to be sure he could hold his own in the future. That man, that legend, was THE Chips Dubbo.
He spent his entire life in the future, and could only come back to 2001 in 74 years. The super-secret-time-machiney-team decided somewhere in the late 2400s as a perfect middleground between too far into the future and too near the present. Turns out, the stories of Halo are told from HIS prospective. What he heard over the course of the 90 years are then boxed and sold under the tag “Halo” by Microsoft to get some revenue to pay off the massive debt the company is in for the creation of the time machine.
