The title says it all.
I think with H5 going back to the Arena style shooter and dropping the AAs and load outs I think Halo can get back on the map and dominate MLG like it used to back in H1 and H2. Only time will tell though. I would like it too because once Halo was dropped from MLG the pop numbers dropped significantly.
One can only hope

That is true.
They are really trying to go back to their arena style roots so I doubt it is dead.
Well the biggest reason MLG dropped Halo was because of the contract MS made with -Yoink!- Gaming

So is there a reason for the general animosity people here seem to have for MLG? Because they made it “about the competition instead of HAVIN FUN!”? If you don’t like MLG, don’t watch it and don’t play the playlist. You have social slayer, they have MLG. Problem solved.
I hope not. MLG was a fantastic playlist, and I always enjoyed watching the tournys.

And what happened to said contract? -Yoink!- Gaming seems to have got lost in the dark…
Is Halo MLG dead? Probably. Is Halo Esports gaming dead? No. In fact, I think it’s just getting started…
Halo MLG is dead. Im happy about that, MLG is just a trigger word of all the little kiddies out there who want to be ‘pro’ CoD players. Having Halo within that hprrid league would just give it a bad reputation as a Competitive game. Just like CoD.
Halo is now in the hands of ESL. A far better league of eSports. Just look at what they have been doing for Halo recently. Not only that, But the games on the ESL side are far more serious; Counter Strike and Starcraft II come to mind.
Honestly, I want Halo to stay as far away as possible from MLG. Halo has found a new home for its Competitve players. And now we are playing with the big boys.

Yassssssssss.
I for one don’t care about the whole competitive scene and the intrusive way it influences today’s gaming and I feel it’s negatively eroding the social balance by dictating uber competitive edicts on how online gaming should be gestated.
I know that being competitive is fun for some people, and that it’s probably those who make money from playing video games, I get that; it’s the attitude that seems to come from that; especially from people who view MLG as some type of benchmark, want to be in MLG but not and that somehow not being good enough for MLG or being interested in MLG invalidates your entire ability to play the game (you just need to see the threads about “if you’re x rank then don’t play” to see this)
im glad they moved on. I hated playing one of em in MM and then getting messages about them owning me in MLG rules.
Yes you are correct OP there will be no more Halo MLG. Halo will still be played competitively and is partnering with ESL,
What are the positives if mlg makes a return?
Should mlg make a return?

idk how much influence they would have on sales, but more people online playing for sure

Assuming the game is actually competitive, and we’re not just believing that because we hear the word “arena” every 8 seconds.
I’ll believe it when I see it.

Or you could just look at what’s being presented? Do you see unequal starts? Do you see symmetrical maps? Do you see any side being given a unfair advantage? No? Then by definition it’s an arena multiplayer game. I understand Halo 4 shook up a lot of faith in this franchise for a lot of people, but that doesn’t mean that you should just live in the past and pretend that Halo five is somehow going to just be like Halo 4, or to pretend that it’s not going to be an arena game.
For the record though, there was a recent Xbox Magazine article that I read yesterday about Halo five, and there was an entire section dedicated to 343 industries absolute commitment to bring Halo back to the E sports scene, which is why they included features such as spectator mode and other thing I don’t know if it will be MLG but there’s other avenues free sports out there. And let’s be honest MLG right now is running call of duty as one of their flagship titles. Do you really think they support the kind of values that Halo community supports for electronic sports? I highly doubt it.
