So far. I have to go with no. It doesn’t look like next gen. At least right now. What are your thoughts?

You would have to see a comparison to really judge but probably not
I think the only question is if you have a One, One S or One X. For the first two, absolutely. If you have a 4k compatible screen it really does make a huge difference the detail and clarity. If you already have a One X (like me), it is a more difficult justification.
The SSD will make for super fast loading times. It will be much more likely to reach 4k consistently over the One X (they will probably both target 4k60fps, with 60fps being essentially ‘rock-solid’ like in H5 by using dynamic resolution scaling. So, we would expect the Series X to be able to hit the resolution target more consistently. It would also have less pop-in, better LOD distances, etc. At least, that’s what we would expect. (Edit: there are rumors Arena could have a 120fps option too. I don’t have a compatible screen though. Now thinking about an LG C9 too ughhh…)
It will eventually be worth it for sure though, whenever the ray-tracing patch comes out. At least that’s my hope.
No. Wait a year or two for games actually made for Series X…

Of course, you don’t have to get the Series X.
But you know you want to…
No.

On one hand, I really appreciate the consumer friendly nature. It is especially family friendly – if I was still a teen, and I had just convinced my mom to buy me $500 console 3 years ago…another $500 one would be a tough sell. If she knew I could play it on my existing One X, no way.
On the other hand, I am an adult now, and make decent money. I would have preferred a game exclusive and built from the ground up for Series X, forcing me to buy it honestly.
Latest article makes me not want to get the game at all!
I don’t know the price, but i’d recommend: spend twice as much on a desktop PC. There are advantages and disadvantages to this, but I think a lot more console gamers should consider it. I’m certainly never going back.

In fact, I’m already an adult, only unemployed. As I go to college, I have to dedicate myself entirely to it. And looking for a job in the middle of a pandemic is very complicated and risky. So, I have to reflect well on my scarce resources. A small expense, and it will affect the future. I’m really excited to be playing Halo Infinite, but I want to have the ultimate experience. Playing on my outdated Xbox One Fat must be awful. It is very difficult to buy some hardware at this time with these exorbitant prices. If it weren’t for college, I would probably choose Series X exclusively. But if in PC market will cut the prices as they anounce new hardware or just to compete with the new next-gen consoles, I will go for PC.

Already have a PC that can run it. Trying to get good at it just frustrating at times. Takes lots of practice. But i feel my ceiling is higher on PC.

I’m not PC guy, but from what I’ve seen a build that matches the XSX spec for spec might be closer to 3x more.

I like the dedication. I also do like that you won’t be forced to shell out if it’s not feasible but still be able to play with us on day 1!
Best of luck in your studies.

No. What’s really extraordinary is that an 8 minute demo effectively killed any momentum Series X had. The years long hype around “power, fidelity, velocity, etc” were absolutely destroyed by Infinites showing. A lot of people are excited for raytracing but you can get that on PC right now (in Halo no less!) and its not that big of a difference honestly (certainly doesn’t fix low res texture work)
I play games on all platforms. When you’ve played games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima or even 3rd party games like Red Dead Redemtion 2 or The Witcher 3, Halo Infinite doesn’t even compare by current gen standards, let alone whats been promised for next gen. There’s a video by GruntingPixel that does a good job of showcasing/analyzing Infinites lack of polish for even a current gen title: Let's Talk About Those Graphics... | An Environment Artist's Layman's Explanation | Halo: Infinite - YouTube
If you already have an Xbox (especially a One X), there’s no reason to upgrade for probably 2 years since they’re forcing cross gen. If you want something “next-gen” before then, grab a PC or a PS5. Of whatever odd ball thing Nintendo does next.
There are many more compelling reasons, beyond Halo, to buy an Xbox Series S For example the power for play the new games of the next generation, Xbox Game Pass, the backward compatibility to use the games of 4 generations, etc.
I’d wait for the ray tracing patch and the inevitable comparison videos following its release. But that’s coming from an X1X user. If you have a normal One it is probably a no-brainer to upgrade.

Yea I’m thinking I’ll just stick with my One X. Now if they put in an option like pubg that you can prioritize FPS or resolution would be a game changer. Because that makes a huge difference in that ugly game. Can only imagine what series x could do with Halo if they did that
I still have my OG Xbox One (not S or X) from 2014, still running great. I think eventually I will upgrade to the XSX and a 4K TV but I definitely want 343 to sincerely commit to updating the graphic’s fidelity before I make these big purchases.

Everything runs better and looks better. If you plan on playing anything, not just Halo, I think it’s worth it. Watching the campaign demo on my 4k 65in blew away the stream in terms of detail and clarity. (Lighting is the source of many graphical woes, and ray tracing on XSX will hopefully do wonders. Watch DF vid if you haven’t yet)
From a technical perspective. No question. Financially, everyone has to make their own decisions what’s best.
