I wanted to start another post and get feedback from the community about Sprint in Halo:Infinite.
So my take is this, Sprint needs to be nerfed a little bit. Not the speed of which you run because I understand the jumps on certain maps wouldnt be possible if they nerfed the actual speed. Maybe I have these opinions because I loved Halo 5 so much and how when you shot someone it slowed them down from running. Now it seems like a rat chase every match. The maps are already “campish” and no player collision allows people to escape death by sprinting and phasing through their team mate who was shooting me at the door. I feel like the way you can just run through bullets and not be stopped is wrong. I get that these are “Spartans” but UNSC Weapons aren’t an average 7.62 or 5.56 and I dont even have to mention Banished or Covenant Weapons… Not to promote other games but I play a lot of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint PVP these days and player collision is a real thing as well as getting slowed while running if youre getting shot and hit. Now I know that is a hyper realistic game but I remember feeling hyper lethal in Halo 5 as well because when people would run from me they would be almost forced to turn around and gun fight because my bullets slowed them down. Now you can just run and hide with ease and phase through your team mates because there is NO PLAYER COLLISION… Im not one of those Halo 1-3 Elitist who think that sprint should completely go away but after playing Halo:Infinite, I can kinda see where they are coming from. I hate to feel like Im over reacting but it just feels like either this game is still delta and Slipspace has real issues or this Halo title was literally meant for children and new comers who have never played Halo… With all due respect to the Devs and 343i Im not trying to be mean…
What does the community think about this? Am I reaching?
The speed boost you get from running in Infinite is already pretty small. You already should only use it when you know you can quickly get around a corner, because otherwise you will just be a free kill, since you can’t shoot while sprinting.
I haven’t played H5, but i feel like sprinting on H4 was way more powerfull then on Infinite. On Infinite you are way better of doing slidejumps (if you know how to do them) to quickly get away, that gives you a way quicker speed boost and makes you way harder to hit.
If anything… the sprint in Infinite could be a little faster.
Just a tad.
I think it got out of hand with Halo 5 when combined with thrusters. Sprint + jump + thrust was an insane leap - and that’s what tended to push the envelope too hard.
I did like the shields not charging in Halo 5 though.
IMHO Halo Infinite sprint is way too slow for me. I like speeds like in Unreal Tournament and on my Battlefield 2042 Server faster than stock. I set my sprint in my game modes in Halo Infinite at 110%.
I agree with you Darwi. I see the sprint movement in Infinite to be just right. It’s not crazy quick like Halo 5 and it doesn’t allow people to just escape from every single gun fight.
It’s basically non-existent, especially when you disable the speed lines in the menu, the gun swings left and right like crazy which makes you believe you’re going very fast, but in reality you aren’t. If anything, the sprint’s speed should increase bu 10-15% to actually differentiate it from normal walking and make an impact.
i think there need to increase the spint more then its now.
the halo 5 sprint speed was more good since you cant sprint all the time and you need to recharce again was a good thing in halo 5.
and you need to have a speed diffrend between walking and sprinting also.
tbh sprint in infinite I feel is pretty genius for once. not a giant speed boost, and only really used for slides. frankly not sprinting is just a fast, which caters to both Bungie era players since you technically don’t need to use it to move around, and 343 era players since it gives that sprint and slide option
I dislike sprint very much except in COD games where running around just gets you killed. So yeah i’d take it out from infinite, it ruins map design and the “flow” that classic halo had
Infinite basically doesn’t have sprint.
Sprint works best when it’s a risk/reward thing. It was in reach-4-5 in different ways, variously well balanced maybe but still.
In Infinite the barely existing reward is rarely worth the risk.
Almost every time someone manages to sprint away, they would have managed to walk away too, as the walk and sprint speeds are almost identical.
For me it’s perfect as it is and leaves an excellent balance. If you get caught in the open it requires skill to dodge and pathfind your way to cover, but it also is enough of a boost that an attacker has to time their attack correctly: too early and their victim can to cover backtrack, too late they can get away
Actually I feel the over all mechanics is all Infinite has going for it really. The problem with Infinite is the majority of the maps are too small. Here we have more mobile Spartans but yet they make maps small, with lots of hallways, corners, platforms ect… Which leads to why they turned collision off… They were probably play testing the maps and every one was running into each other and what not and instead of making a new bigger, more open and better maps they were like hey we can just turn collision off and call it a day… I bet maps like Truth and Regret from H5 would play great in Infinite.
SO, my biggest thing is being slowed when you get shot. I think that you should get slowed down when you take hits. Anyone else agree?
It seems like people get away from my shots way more than they did in previous Halo titles. Idk if thats just the new gens that come from different games and are used to running away from gun fights or what?
I can see them increasing the speed a little and I wouldn’t have a problem with that but you definitely should be slowed down when you get hit… IMO
@TotalTeeto117
Post offers my view on things and how 343 should’ve handled sprint for Infinite.
And in addition to that it’s extremely heavily implied I do not think sprint is OP in any way or form as I find it a now redundant mechanic which offers little of what it’s main attribute has been, according to many over the years since Reach, that is, offer a little faster mode of movement in order to traverse the map faster.
