I’m not pointing to anything found within Halo 4, but I’m talking about its reviews from critics. If you take a look at the history of Halo’s reception among critics, you see they have been declining slightly since Halo: CE. Just look at these aggregate Metacritic and Gamesranking reviews I compiled (for each major Halo game):
Halo: Combat Evolved - 95.58%/97
Halo 2 - 94.62%/95
Halo 3 - 93.60% /94
Halo: Reach - 91.74%/91
Halo 4 - 87.42%/87
Now that Halo 4 is just about to be released, it has receive less than the standard 90. While 87 is still good, it’s pretty poor for an AAA title and franchise such as Halo. So tell me why with each Halo game, the positive reception is reduced to some degree? Is this a sign that Halo series is declining in qaulity? Please discuss.
I’m glad you are just pointing out two of the lower score reviews. What about other reviews which gave it top marks? If you are going to talk about reviews, get ALL of them and then gives us a good list. IGN gave it a 9.8 out of 10. “Halo is in new hands, but guess what? 343’s debut effort out-Bungies Bungie. Halo 4 is a triumph.” -IGN Quote. Just my opinion… I may be wrong 
In the end critics don’t matter it is the individuals opinion. To be honest though, i believe some of the critics are being to harsh with the game especially the quarter to three which gave it A 2 OUT OF TEN WTF!
Another interesting thing i noticed quite a bit was that some of the lower scores that were 8.5, 8, and 7 the main complaint was that the game hadn’t evolved enough. Which is interesting since several people believe that the game has changed too much.
The average metacritic score was drastically lowered due to two or three really bad reviews. Whereas many critics are saying it’s the best Halo game ever.
Not that their opinion matters. I’m sure it’s an amazing game but I’m not one for critics in gaming because they usually have a vague idea of how things work especially when it comes to story.
Check out some of the low scoring reviews, they are complete nonsense. One of them scored H4 2 out of 10 for example.
Take these scores away and the average looks alot more healthy.
It’s all EGM and QuarterTo3’s fault. Metacritic were stupid enough to include those just plain bad, troll reviews in there, and it brought the score down pretty bad.

These are all the scores combined, including IGN’s. I really wouldnt go off of what critics have to say. I would go off what users have to say MW3 got a 88 critic score and a 3.2 user score. Hmmm which one do I agree with

It just goes to show how little many of the reviewers actually know about the game.
Halo has drastically changed to “get with the times.” Yet most reviewers don’t acknowledge hardly any of the changes and instead focus on how much the game hasn’t changed. Also most reviewers who gave it low scores seemed like they hadn’t even touched multiplayer, which is why most people will be buying the game.
The metacritic score is low due to one or two ridiculous reviews that scored the game 2/10. Without these atrocious reviews the overall would look much better,
Admittedly I have my concerns about this game and its longevity but even I can say the 2 reviwers that gave it low marks are complete morons. They don’t even touch on the things that may be of concern.
It just sounds like 2 guys who don’t like the franchise…or dont like that it has been around so long. This happens every time a WoW expansion comes out. Morons saying the game is bad simply because they are bored of the franchise…
It has been in a decline for a while now. Interest in the Halo series has been slightly waning since Halo 3. I think some people are still a bit hesitant to get back into it again.
decline? not really. only a few reviews lowered its metascore so we all know how people really think. if there is a decline its in the respect halo gets as a triple a title. halo is still awesome and still unique but some people still hate it.
Good another final nail to Metacritic coffin for me.

I love how some people say it is just Halo fanboys berserking when most people clearly pointed out the reviews’ apparent flaws, bias and inconsistency.
I know that I have been a hypocrite for saying “Only my opinion matters,” yet keep paying attention to this kind of score.
Yeah but I will get better.
2 of those negative reviews are some of the dumbest i’ve ever read.

Yeah, the critics can be agitating…
Just grab your DMR or BR, and forget about it.
The fact is that all AAA titles, no matter how much you hate that brand(be it CoD or Halo) all of them are extremely well built playable games and generally deserve an 8 at worst. Ranks of 2/10 are ridiculous, if the game is taken as a whole no sane person would give a 2 to a game unless it was extremely flawed to the point of being unplayable. If you are able to finish a game at all because the mechanics don’t get in the way it’s at least a 3 or 4. The reason you get 2/10 from (IMPORTANT) less trafficked sites are simple to grab attention and garner site traffic. How many of you wen to read the 2/10 review because it was so low. It’s a good marketing plot that comes at the sacrifice of a meta score that the reviewers have no stake in.
You actually think metacritic is a credible source? Wow dude, people are giving it 2’s just so they’ll get traffic from all the mad Halo fans on their site, so their ads will give them more money, MetaCritic is full of poor critics almost none of them are credible
In honesty metacritic is awful, they include all the ridiculous uneducated and troll reviews along side the better ones.
