I still play reach occasionally and would like the extra maps. I have not played halo CE or 2 and want to get a better understanding of the halo universe before halo 4. Is it worth it? I heard the campaign and severs were extremely laggy. Is that true?

As far as the campaign goes, its netcode is poor; this is for pretty much the same reason that we didn’t get CE MP online. CEA was a cheaply-developed product, and reconstructing Halo 1’s engine with an effective networking model would cost some money. So they just tossed some basic lockstep netcode onto the game.
If by “lag” you meant “framerate,” CEA is arguably actually much better than the original game, and it definitely functions smoothly most of the time. The downside is that it drops frames less gracefully than any other game I’ve ever seen; it’s like a crazy back-and-force stutter.
If by “lag” we’re talking about competitive MP, well, it’s Reach. Same peer-to-peer chaos we all know and love, not really server-dependant at all.
For single player campaign, its definetly worth it. You have ten years of technology flashing past your eyes with the push of a button, and everything looks so awesome in Anniversary graphics!
For Co-Op Campaign over Live, it can be a bit laggy sometimes. But remember, the game is technically ten years old, with some shiny graphics and some little extras added in over the original engine, it would be hard to make everything work flawlessly. If you really want to do Co-op, invite a buddy to your home; it will play a lot smoother than Live.
For Reach Multiplayer and the new maps, I’d say its a good choice. The new maps look nice and play pretty well too. Not to mention there is a lot to do in Forge.
Yes, CE:A is totally worth it for the re-mastered Campaign alone. If it’s for 25 bucks go on and buy it dude. The achievements are challenging too and of course the skulls/terminals are pretty fun to find.
If you expect a re vamped CE MP, then you will be disappointed but if you did your research and know what you are going to get with CE:A, then you don’t have to worry about that.
ya for the price it is definitively buy it and even if you dont like the campign (which by the way isnt bad at all) its still worth it for the maps/online the pistol is BEAST and just in my opinion more fun than reach online and you have the option to not have armor abilities so if you want to you can play classic style or reach style and im not sure if the anniverasry mappack that comes with it it for reach can be purchased on the xblm but if it can and you only like online buy that instead… hope this helps

They can. The maps go for 1200 MS points on the marketplace.
If you want the campaign, then go for it. If you want the multiplayer, I’m just here to warn you that Halo 1’s original maps and gameplay will not be included in anniversary.
The campaign is good. Some areas look bad (For example some of the rock walls on the level Halo) and some areas look good (Almost every indoor scenario).
You can switch between new and classic music tracks (I prefer classic) and you can switch between the new and old graphics as well. What you can’t do is switch between the old and new weapon sounds. (The new sounds are a little off on the plasma rifle and the assault rifle, but for weapons like the pistol and the rocket launcher, they hit those sounds dead on).
The Multiplayer is not there. It’s reach’s multiplayer. If you really want the original multiplayer, then either buy Halo 1 for the Xbox and play the maps with a few friends or Buy Halo 1 PC (Or Mac) and play online with whoever’s left online. (The game is quite active for online play on the PC). The older game costs about $5 - $10, but you won’t get skulls, new sounds or graphics from buying the original.
It isn’t worth it because it actually does not play the same as it did way back when. They claim it does but I ran a test mid mission one time. Hit the back button to go back to 10 years ago gameplay and shot a camo elite with the sniper it died. Went into the updated version and fired 4 sniper shots into the second one. It lived and killed Commander Keys and forced me to start the mission from last checkpoint. So yea it’s broken and does not play the same unless you stick to classical settings.
