After the disappointment that was Halo 4(custom games) I’m thinking about picking up Halo PC for the mods from Custom Edition but I want to know if the online play is still popular before I buy it.
So it has plenty of modded servers still left then?
Even the Mac version has a healthy audience still. The only problem is that it is physically impossible to purchase Halo: CE Mac legitimately anymore. CDs are no longer sold, and all downloadable versions (CD not required) are not for sale too. So it makes finding a good CD-key for multiplayer difficult to find. The one I use is clearly keygenned because I can only play a few servers with it.
I can get a copy from Amazon or Gamestop for $20 so no problem there.
I play Custom Edition on PC a lot, and it is still very active for a game this old. People are still making maps, Open Sauce is making things like CMTSPv3 possible, and there are plenty of servers still up. If you want a dead Halo multiplayer game on PC, try Halo 2. Nobody plays that anymore, and you can’t even play the -Blam!- thing if you have a Family Gold subscription.

Those prices are ridic for Mac…
Ebay is no better.
The only way for a Mac user to fully enjoy the multiplayer is to find a miraculously unused CD key, drop $100 for a HOPEFULLY unused key, or drop $50 for a used copy with a high chance that the CD key is still being used.
I think the point here is that it is quite impossible to give Microsoft, Bungie, Macsoft, or any of the original owners of the game your money. The only way is to either mail one of the companies (Macsoft I guess) a check for the original price, or give the Macsoft vendor on Amazon $100, which is just stupid.

Ok now to steer this in the right direction I don’t own a Mac I own a PC which you can still find new copies for $20.
I just recently stumbled found my copy of Halo CE. I ad both the Mac and PC versions of the game. Except the Mac CD doesn’t have the product code with it and I only have Macs now… Sad day.
If I could play it online, I still would easily. Its still a great game.
