Is halo becoming a PC game?

Halo was originally an Xbox game, as you all know, and even if there could be more players with the PC side, i’m worried that 343 is slowly nudging away from Xbox. Correct me if i’m wrong please. I HOWEVER am not pessimistic towards halo and its future, and the graphics have improved drastically since we’ve first seen. Just trying to put out my worries to the community, and not anything TOO serious. cya spartans i guess

Halo has also been on pc since h1, aswell as h2 on vista.

Kind of an odd view to hold, Just because they are also building towards pc ontop of xbox doesn’t mean they are shifting onto pc slowly.

I don’t think so. 343i is able to dedicate resources for a PC version so players can play on whatever platform they want. As mentioned above, it’s not the first time a Halo game has been on PC. Additionally, MCC coming to PC hasn’t made the Xbox version worse (there are other issues that will hopefully get ironed out soon though). Don’t worry!

343 has to make sure the PC version releases flawlessly since PC’s Halo MCC launch left a sour taste for some. While the launch was no where near the disaster the console launch was, it was still a bit rough in terms of polish and the lack of many traditional PC features.

Halo is still the flagship franchise of Xbox. That may change depending on how Infinite goes, but until Halo stops being the face of Xbox, it won’t become a full-on PC game.

343 need good numbers playing and so Infinity needs to please as many players. Seems a good move

Xbox itself is changing. It’s not just a console anymore, it’s a brand and service. It figures that they’d take their flagship with them.

It’ll be as much as an Xbox game as it will be a PC game.
I don’t see a reason why it should be just one or another.

Their move towards PC likely has less to do with platform migration and more of just an inclusionary move since people who wanted to play Halo 3, Reach, ODST, and 4 were never able to play the games until MCC came to PC. Considering how popular the Xbox is, it’s very unlikely that Microsoft would basically kill something that brings in so much money by forcing their contracted development teams to move all of the more popular games to PC.

Exactly this. OP is looking at the expansion of Halo without considering the expanding wider perspective. Halo is always going to best played on Xbox. It is Xbox’s flagship title, the reason people buy into Xbox is Halo.
The difference is Xbox is no longer exclusively a hardware manufacturer, it is an online service. For the sake of the Xbox brand, Halo needs to run perfect across everything with the word ‘Xbox’ on it. It needs to be the best shooter on both console and by extensio****n PC.

Extension. Expansion. You get the point here? Xbox Consoles are not being left behind, they are being expanded. Sure they aren’t going to have 4k ray-tracing at 144fps but they aren’t $2000. Consoles are the best middle-ground for most people and are likely still the biggest audience. Nothing is coming to PC which cannot come to Xbox.

Edit: Jeez, re-reading this I really do come off as an Xbox fanboy don’t I?

Nah you’re just saying the truth.

What do you mean by “slowly nudging away”? Are you afraid that Halo might not be on xbox in the future? PC just has so much more you can do with it so they’re taking advantage of that. Nothing more.

Here’s my concern actually, so most people who play console games do so on a TV. When I play COD: Warzone on my tv, the minimap, player names, everything is just SUPER tiny. Why? Because the game is also made for pc players in mind who sit 6" from their monitor. So unless I want a 95" TV, it’s just gonna be small on my end.

So what does that mean for me on Xbox playing 8’ from my TV? Will the distance markers be microscopic for me to read? Am I going to have to re-arrange my entire living room so I can sit closer to the tv? (not happening). I hope that they don’t completely forget about console people and the logistics of playing on the couch with buddies and beers so that the super hardcore pc crew (who is significantly smaller in population) can make their FOV 1000 and have 100:20 aspect ratio and have millimeter text.

There’s a clear focus on PC, or at least point of discussion since it’s the first game to truly be utilized with the PC in mind from day one. I just want to make sure that 343 utilizes the next gen consoles and their capabilities. The Series X is a very powerful console, and I want 343 to make sure that every base is touched on and optimized for the best experience for the world’s most powerful console can offer. The Series X version can’t just be a bit better and smoother than the xbox one version. The Series X version needs to showcase Infinite in the best possible way by maximizing the capabilities of the Series X to its fullest, leaving no stone unturned

Don’t think of it as a “They’re reallocating resources from Console to PC”, but more as “we’re adding MORE resources to add PC”. They’re not taking halo away from xbox, but rather giving PC players the halo they deserve, and console isn’t suffering from it. If anything, it’ll push the console side more. FOV sliders say WHAT?!!?

I don’t believe there is anything to worry about. Xbox is more of a brand then it is a console now anyway. So bringing in the PC space to the Xbox space and vice versa using Halo is a great idea for Xbox and the Halo franchise. If anything Halo isn’t becoming more of a PC game, it’s becoming more of an Xbox game than it was before.

With any luck, they will give us a customization suite for the HUD so that we can resize everything to our own preferences.

I think the distinctions between Xbox and PC in general are going away. The Xbox is becoming basically the surface but for gaming. For Microsoft if you need a computer to do work get a surface, if you need one for entertainment and gaming get an xbox. You could always get either type of system from elsewhere and Microsoft will make money from software, but surface and Xbox are their visions for dedicated hardware and other manufacturers can deviate how they see fit. Not sure if this ultimately good or bad, but just my observations of trends.

They do have a FOV slider which can help, but yeah hopefully they will also have a hud sizing option too
