Now before you all crucify me just hear me out. After seeing the E3 gameplay for Halo 5 I can’t shake the feeling that its a lot like the recent Mass Effect Games. For example in the gameplay video it appears like you can give commands to your AI teammates, and with xboxones love for the Kinect I wouldn’t be all that surprised if there were voice commands for some stuff. This was already done in Mass Effect 3 if I am remembering correctly.
Also you seem to have more armor abilities (at least that’s what i’m still calling them for now). Lock appeared to use at least 2-3 different abilities in the same mission. He used some sort of promethean vision a jetpack and towards the end a ground pound. In Halo 4 we had similar armor abilities but only had one at any given time. So can we now have multiples? (at least in Campaign mode?) I know in the Mass Effect games you get multiple abilities that you can choose from and even upgrade. Now this isn’t really the same since in Halo there clearly some sort of armor abilities that you will most likely be forced to have rather then being able to change and or choose, then again you never know, but it still sounds a lot like what Mass Effects gameplay is like.
Of course 343 trying to implement other games elements into halo isn’t really all that unherd of… cough… Halo 4… cough. Now mind you i’m not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, its more of a observation and an idea for you guys to discuses. So please discuss your thoughts, perhaps even tell me i’m just being a crazy idiot. But before you do just ask your self these questions.
Dose Halo 5 seem a lot like a Mass Effect game?
If so is this a bad thing?
Why am I reading this guys stupid post?
Where have you been in the past year.
If so then I want to date a Sangheili
AI Commands are in plenty of games. In particular, you should be looking at Star Wars: Republic Commando since the guy that did that is doing it for Halo 5.
Spartan Abilities are replacing AAs and are universal to all players. In addition to Sprint, you can clamber edges, charge while sprinting and perform a ground pound as well as slide and use a thruster pack. The “vision” ability is unique to Fireteam Osiris missions in Campaign.
In the sense of “Here’s a big sci-fi universe to explore and play around in” I can see similarities to Mass Effect. But that’s it and in no way is that a bad thing.
You’ll get crucified regardless. Most of this community is too -Yoink!- about any criticism that gets hurled at Halo 5. Yes, the things you listed bear several similarities with Mass Effect, as well as other modern shooters out there. But someone on here is bound to tell you “Oh, it doesn’t seem like any those games to me at all! It’s still Halo!”
They held off on showing gameplay either because they’re afraid that they don’t have solid gameplay to show, or because they want to “wow” us with whatever that new rumored giant BTB mode is. Either way, I’ve decided not to buy Halo 5. I’ll rent it for Campaign because I don’t care to support 343/MS for a game I won’t enjoy. The gameplay may resemble Halo somewhat, but it isn’t enough of a resemblance to my expectations of a Halo game. Not even close.

Those nude hologram statues of Elites really got you going, huh?

Totes dude but for the sake of this thread I will say yes. As if it was truly like Mass Effect I want the ability to romance people.

They are letting people play the game at E3, it’s actually the mode that you’re talking about too.
A little bit. Mass Effect and Halo have a similar setting so I’m not totally surprised. Plus both games are awesome so Im not complaining
i see mass effect in destiny as well. its probably just a commonality for being in the sifi genre but mechanically they differ greatly. now if halo added a little mass effect im not agaist it depending on what it is.
(give me the halo equivalent if the reapers, them precursors)
The two share some very small similarities, but thats about as far as I would tie the two together. For one PvP is nonexistent on ME, campaign is much more open to choosing how you want to proceed, lots of side quests, RPG elements. Halo has always been more linear, level selections, very focused of PvP combat.
I wouldn’t mind if Halo Campaign became a bit more like ME as in a bit more open world. Maybe being able to choose certain levels (perhaps choosing to beat the entire campaign with Blue Team before even touching Red Team or doing each one mission by mission and completing them one right after another).
More like Republic Commando and I am perfectly alright with that since it will be the closest thing to an RC2 I’ll ever get. And it has Buck in it. Can’t go wrong with Buck.
The Reapers are the Guardians
Wow I am genuinely surprised how fast people responded to this, and even more impressed with how many of you agree. You all had some very excellent points as well.

That is actually a very good point. I still feel that gameplay wise Halo 5 might be a lot like Mass Effect. But its campaign/story overall is definitely more linear. Now I prefer the liner approach with Halo, to me Halo has always been a cinematic story that we get to interact with, rather then a explore the universe and make your own story.
I was under the impression there was more to Mass Effect than AI teammates and “abilities”.
Nah, just like Republic Commando thats all. Which is awesome btw.
I dunno, the ‘commands’ seemed scripted to me.

That’s probably because the ones in the trailer were scripted.
haha no way. ME has a much better and different wayy of handling the story. also halo is a fps where i can’t date a grunt and have interactive character conversations.
