Been pretty shocked at how poor this game has ran lately. Besides the obvious issues with lag and poor matchmaking it’s almost impossible to play a game without something going wrong. I live in Utah so the nearest server to me is Southern California which is 1000+ miles. I’ll sit in a lobby searching for a game for 5+ minutes. If I actually find a game I just get to suffer through lag, and when the match is over the entire game freezes and I have to reboot the game. If that’s not bad enough every single time a person leaves a big team battle game the game freezes for like 3-5 seconds haha. How does this exist as an issue in 2017? I remember playing Warcraft 2 on freaking dial up connection and never had this issue haha. I love halo and every few months try to come back and play it but seriously the game just doesn’t function. And then updating the guns 2 years in? Seriously? Is that just admitting they’ve done a terrible job on the game balance? They still haven’t gotten master chief collection figured out, and halo 5 isn’t doing much better. Maybe if I lived right next to a server the game might be more playable but as of right now I don’t have much faith in this company getting anything right in the future.
Ya.
There’s always some weird stuff going on. Like a Spartan that can shoot in clamber. Then shoot while facing the wrong direction. Then finish the perfect kill while I’m behind a wall.
The game is barely finctional right now.
Well…
-I live roughly the same distance away from a server as you
-lag yes (I also consistently play with friends from the UK)
-wait time between games, occasionally
-people quit yes
-game freezes yes
But I’m rank 150 and still playing though…

Seems like you’ve already made up your mind.

Made up my mind on what?
I’m not really sharing an opinion, it’s actual issues I’ve seen with the game. I bought it on release and have played it on and off since then and have seen the quality of matches consistently get worse as time has went on. Not sure about the weapon changes, I haven’t read much about it, but I can definitely tell certain guns are basically worthless when you play in a laggy connection (battle rifle, smg).

This sums up my entire 2.5 years of playing Halo 5. If this garbage didn’t happen my KD would be well over 2.0.
It used to be bad, now it’s unbearable after the overtime update. So over it.
Except from lag sometimes, the game works fine.
Waiting times have always been long for me,so it doesnt bother me anymore.

I dunno but Warzone Firefight has been working fine for me, for what it’s worth.

Warcraft Orcs and Humans was my -Yoink- when I was a kid! Loved that game, so many memories.

Here’s the story, as far as I know: 343 wasn’t going to update Halo 5 anymore (seemed like they were too busy with Halo Wars 2), but then Microsoft decided to come out with this Xbox One X thing, for which the main selling point was 4K. At that point, Microsoft probably told 343 to update Halo 5 to work with 4K. And since 343 was now going to update Halo 5 anyway, they decided they might as well throw in some weapon tuning as a special extra thing. In other words, I don’t think they would have updated the guns if the Xbox One X wasn’t a thing.
I live in Virginia and don’t know how far the server is for me but the game over all functions but yeah I get bugs here and there. I can get a short freeze in btb some times and match making times can be slow but haven’t seen anything near or over five minutes. Maybe like two or three. I have gotten the screen freeze after a game where I have to reset the game. Try hard resetting your console from time to time. I think it really makes a difference. I do one pretty much before every game as I leave my Xbox unplugged now.
Halo 5 has never truly been completely functional. There has always been something broken.
I think it’s your internet, dude. I have average internet and I have no problems at all, except for match making times while searching for focused matches, but I think that’s normal. Expanded matches take seconds to find, for me. Maybe you should check your network settings. (NAT type, double NAT, etc)
Also, I’m in Canada, so servers probably aren’t it either.

There are two data centers in your state. Virginia East 1 and Virginia East 2.
Yeah pretty much & and I love the “It’s just your internet” comments when it’s clearly not my internet cable, if it was I’ll be disconnecting from matches every 5 mins
Mine was running about the same as you guys have mentioned and I always hard reset to see if that clears it up, and it didn’t. However I did the software reset (alternate mac address) and it is working 10 times better now. Could be coincidence but it is worth a shot.

No way , absolutely no way . You can’t be serious buddy . Too many people report the EXACT same problems , it doesn’t matter where you are in the world what level you play at from noob to pro I’ve seen heard people of all sorts reporting these problems. 343 have historically and continually struggled to make a fully functional working title. We all expect a few issues but two years in we shouldn’t be having these problems and yet again it’s another update that gives more bugs to this already riddled title.

Absolutely correct , I and many others are experiencing the same issues . Prepare for the many " it’s your internet " and " your wrong it works fine for me " unfortunately halo 5 and mcc are not properly working titles , it’s not hate it’s the truth we are not just hating on it for no reason we just want this great franchise to be the best it can be.

Functional is not a synonym for perfect. Halo 5 has never been perfect, but it has always been functional in the most basic sense. It’s always worked even if there have been some bugs.
When my internet is good, the game works fine. I think there is a problem on 343’s side which lets some players connect quickly and rarely disconnect, while the game is virtually unplayable for other people.

No, there have always been noticeable and irritating bugs

I never said there wasn’t. I’m not saying Halo 5 doesn’t have bugs, I’m saying having the bugs that it does have does not make it dysfunctional. Halo 5 works. Does it work with some bugs? Yes, but those bugs do not completely render the game unplayable.

But it’s still not excusable
