We were told that Halo 5 going to be darker than the first trilogy or Halo 4. Did you feel its darker atmosphere or not?
Not really, the trailers and marketing all made it seem that way, but it ultimately wasn’t for me; which is a shame. Honestly IMO, H4 had the more emotional and “darker” story when compared to H5.
Halo Reach had the darkest story, nearly all of Noble Team died for their dying planet.

Slight Campaign Spoolers
For the most part, no. But towards the end it gets darker than Oprah’s buttcrack in an unlit cave. Do keep in mind that this comparison is about the darkness of the game and has nothing to do with the quality of anything. The game was amazing.
No; “Gravemind” on Halo 2 (Classic & Anniversary) will always be the darkest area of Halo. Not even a flashlight can help you.
Halo Reach was dark and even Halo 4. Halo 5 felt the opposite, I still liked it though. But whoever said this was the darkest Halo yet didn’t know what they were talking about.

I believe the comment was made in regards to Cortaba “turning” on humanity, and starting her own faction called “The Created”
If genocide against robot dogs bothers you, then yeah it is pretty dark
Uhm, yeah. Its totally obvious it was. Them Guardians be activating and sending out their EMP blasts knocking everything offline making everything dark. The next installment of the series is going to be even darker. I don’t know if The Swords, Infinity, Blue Team, or Osiris will even have enough batteries to fight the reclamation.

The only thing dark about the game is Locke.

you know that wasn’t the question, but yeah, that’s true, can’t see -Yoink- on that level.

XD
Personally the darkest part of the game was hearing that poor woman wondering where everybody went on Meridan and essentially left for dead as you go up the space elevator. Everything else? Yeah, not really.

To be fair, 343 Industries never actually said this. The earliest source I can find for this claim dates back to late summer 2012, where a third-party publication reporting on Halo 4’s story speculated that 343 Industries’ trilogy would be comparable to the original Star Wars trilogy in that the middle chapter would be the darkest. This post came in the middle of an information drought and people started to spread it over the years. Especially after Halo 4 released, the concept of Halo 5: Guardians being the “darkest” Halo game really gained traction.
Still, 343 Industries themselves never said it. I’ve searched. Nobody can provide me with a source. The earliest source I can find is that online third-party article which clearly labels the idea as speculation. A Google search also reveals that the earliest posts spreading this idea about the darkness of the Halo 5 story referred to and linked to this news article to which I keep referring. Eventually people simply stopped linking to this article and took the piece of information as common knowledge. Nowadays, it’s the most popular piece of misinformation spread about Halo 5, period. There is still a distinct lack of a source for 343 Industries ever calling this story their darkest yet.
