Is Halo 5 a Casual Game or a Hardcore Game?

I get the sense the Halo 5 is a confused game. It doesn’t know what it wants to be, which is therefore hurting the game and its popularity.

So before I put the rest of my opinion down, I want to see the numbers of what you guys think.

AT ITS CORE
Is Halo 5 a game made more for a casual audience, more for fun?
Or is it a game made more for a competitive audience, to compete and be the best at?

I think it can be both.

It’s very easy to treat it as an eSports or MLG game.

But it’s also very easy to group up with friends and have a laugh.

Whether it’s more for casuals or hardcore, I don’t care. I’m having fun, that’s what matters to me

Both, considering how arena focused the game is, but also considering how big REQs and Warzone is

This poll needs a “Both” option. Since it is missing that option, I did not vote.

Why not both?

But at its core, which do you think it is? Games can not naturally be both. Example LOL, is a hardcore game played by casuals. Where as COD is a casual game that is played hardcore.

I honestly believe it’s both. I think Halo was designed to be this way.

Lets look at Halo 3. That was made to be highly competitive in multiplayer. Team SWAT and ranked playlist especially.

But then there was the social playlist too, with things like Infection. That, to me, was more for fun than anything else.

I think games are whatever you want them to be. Halo is just really good at catering for all audiences.

But you just answered my question for Halo 3, it was made to be a hardcore game.

So is Halo 5 made to be a hardcore game or a casual game? Not saying that it can’t be used for the other, in fact doing one well often attracts the other… But what is Halo 5 at its core?

mate at its core halo is a game of skill and accuracy! not for noobs and u either got to play alot and get good or get used to losing. cause its one of the most fair and pure pvp shooters there is. warzone is a joke for noobs wasting money and jus to think they are real halo players… i love halo cause at its core its competitive and fair. if u want casual goto warzone and play with nubs

Depends on how you handle the game, I guess. The game itself feels like its tailored for both hardcore competitive gamers and casual easygoing players.

I think it can be both. Whenever I play elimination with my friends we all believe we are MLG. However just playing warzone or co-op multiplayer can be a fun and relaxing.

I’m actually surprised at how many answered hardcore. To me it seemed like 343 was trying to go for more of a casual approach with the whole game.

Both. Arena and warzone. Hardcore and casual.

the community at least seems to think of itself as “hardcore”

Halo has always been really casual to me. even this game it feels like that.

that said… the idea of aiming for the “hardcore” audience is suicide for developers… Ask any mobile developer what gets the best reception and most buys and most will comment about aiming for a experience for everyone.

343s biggest mistake is making out halo as a “hardcore game” this time around. “filthy Casuals” make up well over 10-20x the average player base of any game… the smaller the skill gap for them is, the more likely they are to stay because the more likely they are to be enjoying themselves.

I feel its a little of both.

I agree with u.

As of right now it’s an unfinished game desperately in need of noticeable progress toward completion. Until the game has actually been shipped out to you, I’d not bother trying to label it like this. 4 playlists and Warzone is nothing more than a Halo sampler. Let’s hope the rest of the game launches very…very soon. Let’s hope 343 isn’t as incompetent as many here like myself believe they are. Let’s just hope this game is offered a chance to succeed by its own development team.

Certainly both, especially since it wants to be taken seriously on the Esports scene.

It’s neither… Arena is filled with too many bad spawns and Spartan Chargers to be competitive at the moment, and Warzone is suddenly the mode where everyone has something to prove. It starts devolving into tryhard nonsense where players start camping outside your spawn to pick you off before you can run back into the base, people hijacking your scorpion as soon as you exit the vehicle bay, camping on top of the Garage on Escape from A.R.C., radar sneaking into the Spire with a Shotgun to kill you while you use the REQ station, and other assorted -Yoink!- maneuvers.

you made my day with that CoD comment! so true…people take that -Yoink- way to seriously when all that matters is who pulled the trigger first.
