Is Halo 4 REALLY turning into CoD? No it isn

I have heard people argue that Halo has stolen too many ideas from Call of Duty. That we have lost the things that make Halo unique. So what has been added to Halo from CoD you say? We borrowed Hit markers, Grenade indicators, Airdrops, Team names, and Custom classes. My question is, do you guys realize what Call of Duty has taken from Halo? They took infection, screenshots, theatre, and emblems, yet nobody screams about that.

Here is my issue, what is so big about most of the things we have borrowed? Grenade indicators and Hit markers don’t help anyone if they already know the old tricks that are EASIER to use. Tricks like listening for the grenades instead of having to use your eyes. Airdrops, or ordinances as they are called in Halo, came from Call of Duty, but I NEVER hear complaints about them. So are there only CERTAIN ideas that are okay to steal? Team names would make SENSE in Infinity Multiplayer. Ifd players are now supposedly teammates training for combat missions, shouldnt they have a team name?

The biggest change I see is the fact that you can now customize load-outs. Didn’t most people do that in custom games, anyway? You now get to start the game with your style of play. Its not like someone will spawn with a rocket launcher, like in CoD, but instead, you can finally pair your favorite base weapon with your favorite ability. The true unbalance in CoD is the fact that you can customize a weapon’s attachments. The unfairness comes when you have an M4A1 with Noob tube versus a M4A1 with a silencer. Same gun, different affects. In Halo, if you have the same gun, that means you have the SAME GUN.

So why can Call of Duty take GOOD ideas from Halo and call it CoD, but we can’t take GOOD ideas from CoD and call it Halo?

Every game borrows from each other, just not Halo and CoD.

I think it is pretty lame how people think we are stealing ideas from other games. Pretty much every console shooter stole ideas from Halo CE. The way I see it, if it is something good and it works, then use it. If not, don’t.

Exactly my way of thinking. The problem is, a lot of people forgot and don’t appreciate the fact that Halo CE practically CREATED Call of Duty and the other Console First person shooters.

Grenade indicators, team names, air drops, hit markers, AND custom classes exist outside of Call of Duty and many existed before call of duty

Another one of these threads? These aren’t helping, and are just as useless as "Halo = COD " threads.

You never hear complaints about Ordinace drops? Selective hearing I think there.

Before ANYONE says COD invented those features, no they didnt. But the reason why Halo has adopted many of these new features is because COD has it, and they think this is what Casuals like, gimmicks, where in reality, they moved to COD for the faster natured play as Halo killtimes got longer, and longer, and longer, and will continue to do so with more defensive AA’s and abilities like sprint, the regen field AA (which I just read about, and lets say its lol tastic), camo, shield etc.

They have taken things from not only COD, but every other bloody FPS at the moment and crowbarred them into Halo. Why would a casual come to Halo now when it plays the same as other shooters, but with much longer kill times?

From big to small

Default Sprint
Fully customized loadouts
The concept of a crappy secondary weapon/sidearm
Perks (I have to select a perk to pick grenades up, something thats been a standard ability in Halo? LOL)
Prestige mode
Progressive ranking
Unlocking weapons/abilities via this system
Grenade Indicators
Insta spawns
Kill cams (seen in the barn video)
Music at start and end of matches
Drops/Killstreaks handed to you
Changed kill points to reflect that of other games

Kill cams is a rumor, and wasn’t in E3 build.

Not literally…

> Kill cams is a rumor, and wasn’t in E3 build.

Kill cams is nothing but a rumor and an over reaction to a video done in a barn, on a old -Yoink- TV which for all we could know is fake. And if kill cams was in the game, we would of seen it in the gameplay demos so far, there has been tons of people who’ve played it, and shown official videos, and yet no word of kill cams, just the normal everyday Halo team cam.

The problem is that 343 is marketing this game to those players, the CoD ones, that care about all the stuff like massive customization, and ranking system that make them feel good, without being good. Their marketing to a social crowd when Halo would built as a competitive game. With that, they leave the veterans in the dust.

I agree, there is only 1 way to deal with these threads…

Crashing these threads…
…with no survivors!

I think these threads are unnecesary. You wont be able to convince anyone who thinks otherwise. Your just wasting your time. PPL try out Halo 4 and decide if they like it or not, if its like cod or halo, until than we should discuss something else.

PLEASE, don’t bring up the Halo/COD debate again, I’ve really had enough of it.

> My question is, do you guys realize what Call of Duty has taken from Halo? They took infection, screenshots, theatre, and emblems, yet nobody screams about that.

lol that sure effected the “cod feeling” around the game. /sarcasm

The truth is that Halo 4 will still feel like halo, but there isn’t any doubt AT ALL that 343 is trying to make the game like call of duty. Infection, screenshots, theatre, and emblems??? How the hell does that make the game feel like cod or not? You think that made MW3 or blackops feel more like halo? LMFAO. However, i’m almost positive that custome classes ALONE (perks, armor abilities, sprint default, weapon choice) will make Halo 4 have a hint of call of duty in it.

> Grenade indicators, team names, air drops, hit markers, AND custom classes exist outside of Call of Duty and many existed before call of duty

Finally someone who gets it. COD invented nothing. It took already existing ideas, and molded them into one.
