Is Halo 4 Matchmaking THAT bad, or is it good

I do not have Halo 4 yet, but I plan to get Halo 4 for Christmas. Obviously, the campaign is epic, and Spartan Ops is a great way of keeping players invested in the Halo universe.
What I am worried about is the matchmaking.
I’ve jumped from topic to topic to find what people have to say about the matchmaking. All I have to say is: I am very concerned. I do not know whether or not people are making a mountain out of a molehill, or it’s actually that bad.
Can someone please tell me how bad it REALLY is? That way I know how much time I’ll invest into this game Christmas morning.

Matchmaking is awful.

You often get matched with hosts from other countries.

And if you are a higher skill you will be matched with less skilled people to balance out the team.

It seems to come down to “classic” vs “modern.” The link below goes into depth about a lot of the changes with H4 and why some people don’t like it. Personally, I think H4 is “meh” and I only started playing Halo at Reach. H4 definitly plays a lot differently than Reach and presumably even more different than it’s predesessors. I say read the link, play MM at a friends, and decide yourself.

Matchmaking is okay under 2 conditions:

  1. You go in with the appropriate amount of teammates for the playlist. Otherwise you’ll start getting JIP which almost always sucks.

  2. You are just going in for some fun. The game is EXTREMELY random with World Ordnance drops and Personal Ordnance drops. It can be a fantastic time, but just don’t expect consistently fair games.

If you want some truly competitive games you’ll have to party up for some customs I’m afraid.

It’s a great and fun game MM is good most of these people are just haters and trolls. I played h3 this whole weekend (about 20 games) and when I went back to 4 it didn’t feel too different.

Word of advice: NEVER go to a game’s official forums for you’re opinions of it. All you’re gonna see is hate for the game, nothing but blind hate, not a good place to go to. Here is a better place to get reviews on the game.

Watch, I bet some guy is going to say i’m wrong and saying that just because i’m not hating on the game i’m a “blind fanboy” or “a casual player”.

It’s amazing,
you’re gonna get alot of the haters saying its rubbish giving a bunch of opinions they believe to be “fact” which are not.

And yes, me saying it is amazing is my opinion aswel

But, the game, plays and feels like any other Halo, with the adition of AA’s and sprint, which both work well.
There are a few issues and bugs, but nothing is gamebreaking.

JiP is a bit of a pain, but JiP is a -Yoink- in every game that has it, theres nothing you can do about that, sadly.

The game, in my experience is probably the least laggy of all Halo titles aswell, I’m not sure how others are complaining about lag xD

but, tbh, you can only judge the game for yourself.
rent it first if youre unsure and test it, then decide wether you like it yourseld.

Me, myself, i love it and find it to be amazing.

also, to people -Yoink!- going to flame me, yes i have played other Halo titles, i’ve played every halo game to death since late 2001
Yes i do love the 1-50 and prefer it too progression based ranking. etc.

this
90% of people on the forums complain about this game and make it out to be the worst game in the world

in reality, it won awards including best mp and game of the year from machinima and great reviews all around.

i think its a great MP. If you don’t mind out comes being a bit more random then they used to.

Depends what you mean.

“Multiplayer” is fun. People will -Yoink- but its fine.

“Matchmaking” however is a giant flaming pile of confused good intentions.

Wrong. The drop in player population on war games is all the “reviews” you really need.

I would have reviewed the game very well at first, too. But the multiplayer replay value is nil.

There are errors and design flaws in Matchmaking (and multiplayer in general, including Customs) that are inexcusable, and this is why people take to the forums. We’ve come to expect much more out of Halo than things like this (lack of custom game options, no Falcon/Hornet, underpowered vehicles, etc.), and we’re not happy with the new direction. We feel we’re taking completely unnecessary steps backwards.

That said, the game is fun. There are certainly problems, and BTB is a mess. BTB has always been my favorite gametype–I started videogames with Battlefield and then migrated to Halo, but I may have to go back now that 343 has turned vehicles out to the trash. And no, that is not hyberbole; you will die faster in a vehicle than you would on foot. If you like 4v4, I think the game does a lot of stuff right. Personal Ordinance drops can be frustrating when the other team’s options are Incineration Cannon, Fuel Rod Gun (I refuse to call it “cannon”), and damage boost while yours are Sticky Detonator, Pulse Grenades, and Speed Boost, but they don’t completely offbalance the game. You may spend a few lives pinned in your spawn, but it won’t last forever.

I also greatly enjoy Regicide; I think it’s a great blend of objective and FFA Slayer and it requires a great deal of strategy. Team Regicide is always a blast as well.

So, I would get the game. BTB is disapointing, to say the least, but even it has its moments.

today I played a match with 3 idiots on my team, I went 23-5, but my team went like -25 overall, so we lost, and I got pissed, then I stopped playing, conclusion: yes matchmaking is bad … really bad.

Thats your opinion. The replay value for me is high, i havnt stopped playing since release.

Again, OP, you should rent the game and try it for yourself and don’t ask the forums for an opinion, the most you’ll get is opinionated hatred to the game, which a lot of it is just nonsense.

As someone who played and loved every halo game (Reach was actually in my top 2), I can say that Halo 4 is honestly one of the worst video games I have ever played. I don’t play competitively, I play other FPS games (like CoD), so i’m not one of these Halo fanboys who complains about every new addition. The game was fun and was my favorite halo game until about a week of playing it, and then I realized how bad it really was. Games are complete clusterfu*ks because there is no map control now, the DMR is by far the most annoying thing out of any Halo, I could go on and on…

This game was pretty much built for instant gratification and places little to no focus on long term achievement (outside of commendations). Every match plays the same way because there is no map control where the good players can shine.

Spartan ops is ok, except for the voice in your ear who is the most annoying -Yoink- on the face of the planet.

Campaign was very good.

Wait till it drops to 30 and then it may be worth it.

It generally comes down to this. If you liked reach more than halo 3, you will like halo 4. If you thought reach was a bad game or just enjoyed halo 3 more, you will hate halo 4. (This is for mm of course, campaign is fine either way).

It feels and plays pretty different to previous Halo games. It would probably be best if you just tried it yourself to be honest.

That happens in Halo 3… a LOT. I just played 20 games this weekend and in 3 of them my team was horrible. This one game we were only going against 1 guy yet we were only winning by 5 almost the whole time. We only won cause I was carrying the whole team.

The other 2 games my idiot teammates kept running into the guy with the BR or ROCKET LAUNCHER with their ARs blazing and inevitably getting killed. We only won cause I went 38-19, this happens to often in every halo. Ranking or not.

i enjoy it. i wouldn’t say its better then halo 3 but hey im playing halo 4 over bop2 so thats saying something

Don’t form any opinions from what people say on these forums. It’s a great game! Sure it has some problems, but people make it sound a lot worse than it is. In a few months, the game will be perfect.

Don’t fret, I’m just trying to help out the OP.
