Is Halo 4 even playable..?

I played Halo 4 since November 11th on release date, and I understand lag and black screens here and there, but now every game is lagging for me. All I really enjoy playing is rumble pit, but I cant even do that without lagging everywhere. I just want to know, why is this…

Short answer: Yes it’s playable.

But ALOT of people recently have been experiencing lagging connections, even me who is on fibre optic internet!

Yes.

However, there is some lag recently. Possibly due to a rather crappy icy weather.

Otherwise, the game’s fine.

The lower the population goes, the more laggy games you’ll get. I’d expect it to get worse in the future.

Maybe it’s just my connection and the winter weather but I’m also getting a lot of black screens and sudden lag.

Halo 4 has always been very laggy for me and I don’t think the problem is my internet connection because I didn’t experience that much lag with Halo reach and when I play games like COD etc is never that bad. 6 out of every 10 matches I play are very laggy in Halo 4 to me.

For me it’s playable but not that enjoyable. Honestly i’ve gotten kindof bored of Halo latley.

I can enjoy it, yes it is pretty laggy at times but it gets smooth after a few minutes at most for me.

I just got a foot of snow dumped on my head, and there’s little difference in connection issues. So I don’t think that colder weather has any effect on the game’s connection.

The main cause of connection issues is actually the host based connection having a smaller field of players to pick from due to the lower population. The chances of someone half a world away being host are increased by a lower population. That’s what causes lag issues.

Luckily, Halo 5 will have dedicated servers. So you can bet that the lag issues will be, for the most part, quelled.

All hail the era of dedicated servers; repent, the beginning is coming.

That playlist has a low population compared to others.

Yeah. Now with the snow, my internet is lagging even more.
I wasted an entire CC clip on a guy in team slayer, and he didn’t even die(most were headshots or at least hit his body) and I was then assassinated… these times the weather is sure to slow your internet.

Was this really necessary?(funny but really?)

Is the best game ever made in the history of video games “playable”? lol.

Well standby, Halo is FAR from over.

when the population was larger the matchup code could compare ping times between potential matchups and match you based on how fast your box could talk to others and select an optimal matchup for you based on speed and skill. But with the population so low it has no choice but to just pick anybody willing to play including foreign players and any skill range. Unless the population suddenly gets larger for some unexplained reason the situation is only going to get worse. Hopefully H5 with dedicated servers will have a better experience for everybody.

Yes, there is a lot more lag now. This is NOT due to game changes or weather. It’s because of the declining popularity of Halo 4, which has been discussed all over the web since January of this year.

There are only 10,000 total players at any one given time now, and the multiplayer system works on player-hosts. With so few players online worldwide, it’s very likely you’ll connect with a player-host who’s in another state, or even several states away. That distance means major lag. In comparison, the last Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 often has 50,000+ players online. Which is a travesty, because Halo 4 is a better game and actually has better matchmaking and online efficiency code.

I really fail to understand what 343 is doing with the lobbies. I love Halo, and I think they did a great job with Halo 4 gameplay. The decline in popularity isn’t the single player difficulty, it’s not the weapons, it’s not the colors, or any of that other stuff.

It’s the freakin’ lobbies (This is directed at you, 343 reps). Return the lobbies to standard formats where we know what game type we’ll be playing! It’s a roll of the dice now. I get in a lobby…will I be playing CTF, KOTH, or TDM? What kind of TDM? Will I have my loadouts?

C’mon guys. If the game is good, then it’s got to be something else, right? Bring back our regular Halo lobbies and game types. Sorry about the rant - I think I’ll turn this into a new post… Anyway, the lag is due to the lack of players.
