Hey I was just wondering if Halo 4 is appropriate for a 16 year old. My parents are ok with it but the ESRB rated it M and I tend to listen to the ratings. Anything would be nice.
Most people start playing it around that age if not younger. When I first got Halo a few years back, my parents allowed me to have it based on the fact its a rather unrealistic game and I was pretty mature for my age. Years later and they still hate the thought of me owning a COD game.

Well, I’m 14 and I play tons of Halo 4. Halo isn’t really that “violent” either, so I’d say yes, Halo 4 is appropriate for a 16 year old.

My mom likes the deep and rich halo universe/story. She believes the visuals are amazing and all that.

Halo has a lack of gore and blood in general. As long as you understand the whole Holy war thing, it is as maturely rated as Star Wars.
Yes, I would say so, there is no swearing or gore. You fight aliens not humans, and the aliens are quite cartoonish.
I second all of this. Halo is virtually PG-12, the only controversial things I can see are:
- Some blood and ragdolling (but no gibs, decapitation, dismemberment, etc)
- A few very loose sexual references like some of the banter in Spartan Ops, the teabagging hologram, etc
- Possibly a few lines from allied marines that feature some mild swearing- and of course you always get that one 12-year old shouting obscenities online
- Cortana’s nekkid blue backside
Basically, you’d see more explicit stuff watching daytime MTV. If anything in Halo 4 shocked a 16-year old, I’d have to conclude that they had a pretty sheltered life.

Absolutely. If your able to get a drivers license at 16 (IN USA) then Halo is for sure ok, not too bad at all.

Well yes, of course! I started playing Halo when I was 11-12 years old, and I believe that I turned out quite fine!
If you are a mature individual, then a rated M game definitely isn’t a problem for you!

Depends on your family’s personal values.
It is a “soft” M. Quite a bit of violence and death by necessity of premise, but gore is not heavily emphasized. There is some language, but it isn’t heavily emphasized and doesn’t use the harshest words (that I can remember).
I would equate it to a “hard” pg-13 which means that I personally would be ok with my kids (depending on maturity) consuming it at 14 or 15.
Theres barely any blood, nudity is not extensive ( with the exception of cortana in campaign), no gore, and no bad language.
This is 1 of those games that make me wonder why it has an M rating…
Halo’s only rated M because of the language in Campaign (which isn’t that bad to begin with) and because of Cortana. Take that out and it’s like any other Rated T shooter. You should be good to go. (As a matter of fact, I was 8 years old when I got my first Xbox with Halo. I’m 20)
Halo 4 shouldn’t even be rated M. More of a T for teen game.
