Is Halo 3 a good game?

Personally it’s my favorite in the series and one of my favorite games. I have come across a lot of people with similar opinion on these forums but surprisingly I have found a lot of threads filled with people just hating on the game and just an overall negative attitude for the game. I’m not sure if I just happened to stumble across the minority of the fanbase that dislikes 3 or if it’s a more common opinion than I thought. Does anyone else know anything else about this or is it just me?

Considering the volume of people that played the game, I doubt it’s a majority, however, it’s certainly more prevalent than you thought.

It gets especially bad on Halo 3 Anniversary themed threads. I was just confused to see the amount of hate or at least distaste that’s on here.

It’s a great game, I have very fond memories of its community and gameplay. The campaign was extremely fun, but they made some questionable decisions that kept the storytelling from being better than Halo 2 for me.

Only bad thing about Halo 3 was Miranda Keyes

It’s a great game with a stellar campaign, fantastic gameplay and some of the best multiplayer that the Xbox 360 had to offer. The campaign is filled with so much variety, secrets and some great level design. And I put entire DAYS into Halo 3’s multiplayer. The only thing the game was let down by was its mediocre story, but even that is passable compared to the likes of Halo 5. The story just needed better drama involving the human characters, more plot threads from the terminals appearing in the game, less plot holes and more emphasis on the Arbiter’s perspective along with the rest of the Covenant. Then it could have been up to snuff with Halo 2 and Halo 4.

Good times with halo 3…
I saw a guy on here once say halo 4 was his favorite and that halo 3 was his least favorite… Idk if he was joking or what…

The only thing I don’t like is when your immortal Arbiter friend is along for the ride. It kinda makes it too easy. Luckily that and the short halfjaw moments in 2 were just an incident in the seri…SQUADTIME

I remember growing up, I had an Xbox and played a lot of Halo 2. However, Halo 3 had just released and it looked so amazing. When I finally got an Xbox 360(2007) and Halo 3 as my first game(Still have it! :D) I played thousands of hours in Custom Games. Oh my goodness the Customs were amazing. Once Halo Reach released, I was so excited because Bungie took what made Halo 3 great and expanded upon that. Customs, Forge, etc. Campaign and Multiplayer were of course great and Reach was my new love. The best thing about Halo 3 I’d say is the amazing campaign. The only thing I never enjoyed was how slow we felt. Mostly because newer games were releasing with Sprint and Halo didn’t get it until Reach, but only as an armor ability. Sprint made the game feel more modern and it actually felt like we were Super Soldiers.

The reason why you might find so much dislike for H3 than you expected is because a chunk of fans probably left the franchise after H3, only to be replaced by a new chunk of fans who started with Halo Reach. Repeat this process for H4 and H5, and you don’t have too many fans who entered at H3 left. I believe a monitor called this survivor bias. More “survivors” from newer Halo titles probably played H3 after playing a title post Reach and couldn’t really enjoy the same experience fans found in 2007.

Personally I find the story to be super cheesy and the shot registration garbage, but aside from that it was a kick -Yoink- title.

Halo 2 is my favorite but I do love halo 3 it has good story telling and fun gameplay

Is the sky blue? Haha. I think the distaste towards halo 3 you are seeing is probably in the MCC forum section where people complain that halo 3 is the only game chosen because its so good. It is my personal favorite halo game because the campaign is fantastic, very replayable and gives you an epic last stand/do or die sort of feeling. The multiplayer is also amazing, fun, chaotic and balanced and it never gets boring for me.

That guy was either joking or needs to be on medication

Thanks that actually helps a lot and makes a lot more sense than anything I could come up with.

No it didn’t have anything to do with MCC it was just general hate for H3 and it was most common on H3 anniversary threads.

They might as well rename Team Slayer to Halo 3 Slayer. Even if it’s absolute garbage like Team AR’s on Snowbound people will still inexplicably vote for it over the other games. One time got Team Slayer on Isolation, had a teammate quit immediately, the other quit a few minutes in, and the final one spent the entire game driving around in the Mongoose. Yet I can’t fault any of them for their actions, not sure why I didn’t dip out as well.

Of course I was excited for Halo 3 back in the day. I was a stupid kid in Freshman year buying into all the hype, and the hype blinded me to that game’s flaws. I’ve grown up, experienced other things, learned to not buy into hype, and my tastes have become more refined as well. Going back and playing Halo 3 I can barely tolerate it.

The movement is awkward, the aiming is awkward, the balance sucks, even the best guns still feel entirely useless (Lol BR), 90% of the actually good maps were remakes, and the game is ridiculously slow. Even though I was just an ignorant kid at the time these were actual criticisms from competitive players when the game first came out as well, and to this day there’s still a niche of people that feel this way.

I think the only reason a lot of us even played it was because it had the most content variety at the time. Now that we actually have that content in other games Halo 3 doesn’t have much to offer. Because the core gameplay itself certainly isn’t any better than titles like Ce or Halo 2.

Halo 3 was time well :frowning:

Halo 3 was great Xbox 360 game!

Yeah I was amazed how much hate I’ve seen for H3A in those threads. I knew it wouldn’t be everyone’s favorite Halo but at least out of the people I know it is the only Halo they all have and are willing to play again.

dude yes it is the best
