Is Halo 2 PC Multiplayer still up?

In early 2013 343 said that they were going to shut down Halo 2´s multiplayer. They later said that they was going to keep the game up for a few more months for a company to pick the servers up. Never heard about it again.

I´m thinking of getting Halo 2 for PC but I´m wondering if the servers are still up? Never got to experience Halo 2´s multiplayer and I really want to.

They are still up but, a friendly warning: If you are running an nvidia GPU with latest drivers, there has been a know issue commonly called “texture flickering”


I’m currently experiencing this problem and am trying to escalate to Nvidia’s support group.

If you don’t have an Nvidia GPU you should be fine.

To answer your question though; Yes they are still up and running peer to peer.

Yes, dedicated servers are up still. Anyone can run the servers so no single group can decide to take it offline really.

This is false, since Halo 2 Vista’s multiplayer runs on the Games for Windows Live platform. It has been known for some time that GfWL ceases function in July, so no online games that run on it will work when Microsoft pulls the plug. This includes Halo 2 Vista.
