When Reach came out, there was a big split in the community.
When 343i took over and Halo 4 came out the split widened.
Halo 5 came out, and it’s been very different from previous Halo titles, in both good and bad ways. The game in itself, i think, is great. So, what part of the cycle are you?
Are you one of guys who have been around since Halo 1, and never left?
Did you leave after 2,3,Reach, or 4 and have come back?
Or is Halo 5 your entry into the franchise, and you’re coming from a different set of games?
I feel most people here are probably Halo lifers, because that’s generally the type of person to partake in Halo forums.
I personally started playing when H3 released. I was too young to really understand Xbox when H1 and H2 were popular, but i stood in line at the midnight release of Halo 3, and basically haven’t put the controller down since. I did however continue playing H3 about a year after Reach released, because i preferred it. I also felt H4 was a mess, but i loved it regardless. Just hated those damn server issues.
I started around the time Halo 4 came out, but I started with CE Anniversary.
I started playing back in the CE days. I went through the Xbox Connect/Gamespy Arcade multiplayer days…
If I had to rank em:
- Halo CE
- Halo 5
- Halo 2
- Halo Reach
- Halo 4
- Halo 3
- ODST
Just my opinion
I know everyone feels differently!
I started with ODST in early 2010, been playing ever since.
Been playing since Halo 2. Halo lifer for sure. I am one of the few players who doesn’t mind the changes. Every Halo game gas played different from the previous title. Each Halo game comes with new challenges and new tactics.

I’m disappointed 3 is so low on the list
Any reason?

Nice, i honestly didn’t think anyone would have started playing with ODST. Pretty cool.
Been here since CE, day one. I feel so old and like one of them wise old owls.

I feel the community has an extremely difficult time adjusting to change when it’s presented. I’m not opposed to change by any means, i’m not a fan of poor execution, however, which was my biggest issue with H4.

Same, Although I played CE and Halo 2 on the PC.
However, I do like the changes made to halo currently, as it’s more “noob friendly” so to speak. I wouldn’t mind the addition of classic modes and gamemodes for people who hate the current playstyle though.
Been around since CE when I was in High School. Loved the challenges each game brings although i didnt care too much for 2 when it came around so I didnt play it’s multiplayer as much =\

I have a faint memory of my dad letting me have a very quick go on Halo 2 when I was 5 or 6 years old.
My greatest Halo feat is reaching Reclaimer rank on Halo: Reach.
Only took me about seven years.
I played halo CE but I started at halo 2.
I prefer the old titles for reasons but that doesn’t mean I hate halo 5

I also agree that i wish we had more classic modes. Rocket Race comes to mind.
When H5 initially released there were a lot of people begging for “social” playlist. 343i answered with a none ranked (even though it was still technically ranked) version of Slayer, and changed it to 5v5. I think when the community was crying for social playlist, some of those classic modes were what they were begging for. Not a less competitive version of the same game mode. Thank god they’ve finally given us a decent selection.

I do support the new direction but i have to admit, what Halo 4 did… That was pure chaos, though a beautiful campaign!

Impressive on Reclaimer. I wonder what the respective difference is between max level in H5 and Reach.
I started with CE so long ago…
Since then, I’ve played every Halo since…
I didn’t play much of Halo 4 though, and played Destiny instead (a pretty fun game in its own ways)…
I really started playing Halo 5 about 4 months back due to problems occurring on Destiny…
My personal favorite would have to be Reach probably, after that, I’m not quite sure how to place the rest, though Halo 5 and 4 would be lower on the list …
I’m okay with Halo being taken in a new direction, if it weren’t into an art style that I dislike and leaves good maps looking like a slab of plastic, and some questionable decisions, such as no splitscreen, a seeming (to me) disregard of what was going on in previous Halo’s, and other things. I’m fine with exploration, but I don’t like it if it’s sending our ship straight towards rocks…

You needed 20,000,000 credits to get to Inheritor on Reach, you need 50,000,000 exp to reach SR 152 on H5.
I’m not sure how to compare credits with exp, but I’d imagine it’s harder to reach max rank in 5 than Reach.
I started with Reach and played all the games in the order of:
Reach
Halo 3: ODST (That’s where I got my taste of halo 3’s multiplayer)
Halo 4 (I know, I’m sorry)
Halo CE
Halo 3
Halo 2
Halo Wars
Halo 5 (First Halo game I ever got on launch day)

Right, it’s making that comparison that’s difficult. I guess the best thing to do would be figure what the most effective xp/hr method is for each game, then divide that by 20m and 50m. Reach didn’t have boosts though, and H5 boosts can definitely ease things along, so that’s kind of a wild card.
