Even though it’s been over 2 years, I still find H5 to be the best option, compared to cod ww2, star wars battlefront 2 with all its loot box issues, battlefield… overwatch gives it a run for its money but I still think H5 is the best available. Course I’m probably a bit biased.
H5’s multiplayer can be fun as hell, although it’s really gotten stale having played the living daylights out of it. On top of that, the top-tier players are more or less back and kinda making it difficult to enjoy the game. I am still motivated to reach SR 152 and get the Achilles helmet.
Yes still my favourite. Wouldn’t mind some new maps. Actual developer maps not forged by the community.
But doubt it will happen due to 343 dedicating its resources to H6, which I am totally ok with.
Halo 5 never had the “best current multiplayer”. As soon as people saw the final product had Microtransactions and removed progression based unlocks, they decided to just play Halo to play Halo and went back to either Reach or MCC, both of which are leagues better than H5. When Halo 3 became backwards compatible, there was a spike for some time but it wasn’t “the best current multiplayer” as well, it’s not too high up on the most played list anymore. That being said, I can name 3 games off the top of my head that have infinitely better multiplayer experiences, from worst to best they are:
-
Super Smash Bros. 4
-
Halo the Master Chief Collection
-
Minecraft Xbox One Edition
You know, it’s sad when Minecraft turns out to have a better multiplayer experience than a Halo game. But to be fair 343 pretty much dug their own metaphorical grave when they didn’t deliver on the MCC promises and when they didn’t deliver Halo 5 as it was adverstised, both campaign and multiplayer wise. So no, H5 was never considered to be the “best current multiplayer” by anyone except those who either:
A) Started off Halo with H5
B) Blindly praise everything 343 does without question
or C) Are easily manipulated by 343’s smooth talk to believe Halo 5 in any way shape or form was acceptable for a Halo title to not only treat it’s player base, but to treat the long time fans who just want some good old fashioned Halo fun.
So…yeah, H5 multiplayer 2/10 for too much BS.
Asking a subjective question like this is inherently silly. Kinda like asking “is pizza still the best food around?” And while, yes, there are those who will agree, there will be others who like hamburgers, some who enjoy pastrami on pumpernickel, and those whose tastes change depending on their mood. Not that I’m trying to lump everyone into categories.
Anyway, in terms of popularity, no, absolutely not. I mean, it’s on Xbox and it’s losing in the console popularity contest. In terms of quality, well, I’ve always just stick to Halo as far as online shooters go, since it went online with Halo 2. I’ve tried others, can’t get into them. I don’t like how the Battlefield games work. I don’t like that people spawn in with snipers. I’ve never messed with CoD multiplayer. These were the CoD games I liked. I don’t like games like Destiny where everyone has a different arsenal and special ability. I like that in Halo, everyone has the same gun and abilities and if you die, it’s because you screwed up. Level playing field. Halo 5’s Arena went back to that. Equal starts, power ups on map, power weapons on map, no loadouts, no perks, etc. Most other games I play are single player like Wolfenstein, Dishonored, Witcher, what have you … Halo is basically the only online shooter I play, and Arena in Halo 5 is pretty solid. Warzone on the other hand … don’t get me started.
So for me, yeah, it is the best one … currently. Wait, you can currently play CE in the MCC. And Combat Evolved is the only Halo I’m kinda good at. So no. Combat Evolved in the MCC is the best current shooter and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.
But as far as the general public is concerned … I don’t know, what’s the flavor of the month right now?
Its probably 2nd best next to halo reach, but halo reach dousent have mlg anymore and no longer receives updates, and now that all of reaches dlc’s are free (but i cant get them because it still wants credit card info, even though its free) so everyone plays on the dlcs now…

This. Like you said, it’s subjective, and Halo 5 is my favorite MP game right now. Others are fun and some are super fun (like Titanfall 2), but I just keep coming back to Halo 5.
It’s the best by far.
Not even close lol.
All we need is every usual playlist we currently have, plus let the Anniversary playlist and the H3 Anniversary playlist exist at the same time. That would be perfection.
In my opinion it’s the best, I LOVE Battlefront but they just can’t capture the same gameplay as the old one so it suffers incredibly due to that not to mention the progression system is laughable.
It really comes down to what you want out of a multiplayer experience. As a halo player, to me it’s the best. I love the halo gunplay, and no other game feels the way halo does. Which is a make or break situation.
For me - this games awesome
For another person - this games garbage. I clearly shot first. How’d he end up turning around and destroying me?
Clearly different types of players. Some absolutely hate a game where first shot advantage doesn’t equal an instant victory, and imo halo is all about being able to turn the tide by having the player empowered by the game mechanics and sandbox utilizing more than just catching someone off guard, first shot wins without the enemy putting up a fight.

Out of all the halo games I prefer 2 over 5, but would play 5 over 3
Personally, I prefer Overwatch.
If we are talking about best modern game then yes it is the best. If we are talking the best halo game then halo 5 doesn’t come close.
I personally love the Halo formula and even played competitive for a good while (placed 11th in London) , but recently with the removal of the magnum starts and that being replaced with a messed up BR, I think Halo has gone down hill.
So for the time being myself and ALOT of other competitive players are looking elsewhere (other games), but this might change if either settings are reverted back to magnum HCS settings or a new Halo is announced. For now, Im personally playing CoD and actually quite enjoying it.
I will say that no matter the settings currently in the competitive scene, Halo 5 defiantly has the BEST gun play and movement mechanics in any modern MP game, thus I hope 343 will only improve on the recipe in the future

I have not played CoD WW2 (no dedicated servers) or so I’m told, or Star Wars Battlefront 2 (loot boxes tied to progression), I tried the beta for Overwatch, and that was enough. However, Titanfall and Titanfall 2 blow Halo 5 away imo. I have not touched Halo 5 in over a year, maybe longer.
this is just oppinion. in your oppinion it may very well be the best. in mine it never was. not even close. i still prefer MCC even with it’s flaws. and there is still titanfall 2 which is really good in my oppinion.
btw: never forget, that h5 introduced microtransactions and lootboxes into halo multiplayer with influence on gameplay in warzone gameplay (your loadout and what you can call in). any game with MTs tied to lootboxes should never be called “the best” imo

And asking this subjective question in a forum focused on one game is only really going to bring back a one sided response.
As far as wider audiences, COD WW2, Fortnite, GTAV, and even R6S are all still killing it on xbox. I’d have a look where Battlefront, Battlefield and Overwatch are but MS have updated the Xbox Store and it now has filters on, which is cool, but none of the filters allow you to see “most played” beyond the top 8 right now. “Top Paid”, comes back with Battlefront 2, so despite the loot box issues and lower than the BFt 1 sales, it’s still selling copies.
I honestly can’t say it was. Halo 5’s multiplayer was fun some times, but it got stale the more I played alone. (Not to mention I’m a clasic halo guy, but I’m keeping that out for the moment)
Not many of my friends got an xbox 1, so I didn’t get to play with people much. I also found it to fast for my liking, I know some people eat that up but I’m slow so it dosn’t feel good to me.
There is also the fact that the game was heavily focusing on the MLG community, which is known to trend to the next big thing so that slows down after a while.
I honestly see the multiplayer as a trend, all the ADS, sprint, and what’not all kinda here because that’s what a competetive game is feeling like it needs.
My final verdict,
7/10 multiplayer (minus my annoying warzone feascos…)
(CLASIC halo bias initiating)
4/10 Halo game multiplayer
So I’d say probably 5/10 all around.

this post totally not biased at all /s
Anyways what game has the best multiplayer today is completely subjective op. Sure COD is super popular and on top of the charts but I think it plays like crap and its just running around mindlessly killing each other, Warframe has a super grindy leveling system that puts off lots of new players but I love it for the fact that you can actually earn everything (something I wish a certain game had 343) and I love the super helpful community there, but is it the most popular game? Far from it. Anything from destiny, to titanfall 2, and pokemon can all be considered to have the “best” multiplayer.
Not even close, this game is laughable compared to previous Halo games. It’s a joke, I haven’t played it in over 1 year and don’t plan to. 343i really -Yoink- the bed on this one, and the last one, and the last one, did they make more than 3 Halo games? Well, they are all awful and an embarrassment to the franchise IMHO. I’m really just watching this franchise implode from afar, I have no investment in it anymore.
To answer your question, Rainbow Six Siege is the best multiplayer game on the market, followed by Overwatch.
