Is gold required for Halo 5: Forge?

No Halo Forge is completely free!

so you can actually make maps without gold? that’ll be good when my gold expires

And you can join custom games, or create one, and play multiplayer for free. Granted the population is tiny or sometimes even no one but it’s still Halo.
