Is getting a game hit and miss for anyone else?

So a friend and I have recently returned to Halo 5 after parenthood and life generally mixed things up for a bit, and we’re finding that launching a multiplayer Halo 5 match is really unreliable. Both of us. In entirely different parts of the UK.

Some games, we match up in seconds and we’re off to the races, sometimes we match up, then one or both of us gets an error and are back to the H5 menu.

But by far the most common occurrence (so it seems), is simply not matching up. Wether we’re solo or in a fireteam together, I’d say 50% of attempts don’t go through. Either we wait for ages till we get fed up, or we get an error.

We’re both on the S/X Series, and have noted that H5 MP doesn’t love quick resume, but from our testing, this doesn’t seem to be linked. It’s as though there are windows in any given day where we’ll match easily, or not at all.

Just wondering if anyone else is getting this, if there are any solutions beyond the obvious (hard resets of everything, router to console, nat check etc).

Thanks Spartans!

Not sure if I have the same problem but some guys tried to invite me to get an infection lobby that was actually filled with players that had skill but oddly I was stuck on the screen that tells you the map and game-type within the game mode for a few minutes.

When I tried to leave the fireteam my game just crashed. Happens to me if too many family members are using WiFi. I use an Xbox One X and have played with friends from time to time on Halo 5 warzone. Also, might depend on the playlist you are using-never get to play with an infection fireteam but works perfectly of big team super fiesta, quick play and warzone.

Lastly, I am in the U.K. and play with US players so the game probably doesn’t know how to put me into a game with them in a new lobby of players-that’s also probably why the people you play against may be the same for a few matches.

Oh we’ve definitely seen the same faces a few times, so much so one night I actually wondered at H5s population size these days!

I don’t know, both my friend and I (and by the sound of it, others too) don’t exactly have a seamless matchmaking experience. It is what it is, but its certainly frustrating when you just want to get your Warzone on.

I am UK based and to answer your question with personal experience the halo game scene is far smaller in Europe than in the US. Therefore getting a game in specific game types is easier before 5pm (UK time) it is around then that the US players become more active. The most commonly played game types before this type i find to be firefight and quick play (although sometimes warzone and super fiesta can be ok). When it comes to games such as BTB you will see the same faces every day as it has become one of the more popular gametypes for daily players such as myself.

I’m from the US but I find that the playlists I choose play a big part in the load times. I find SWAT matches in the blink of an eye, but Elimination matches take far longer, and often time out before I find anyone to play with.

I think you’re right. After playing a bit today, I’m wondering if it’s actually just population size.

I went about 3-4 attempts, maybe 10 minutes or more, waiting on Warzone Firefight, just timing out again and again.

Then, all of a sudden, I’m in, and then I was good for 4 games or so before I had to go.

Never reset the game, just, waited it out.

Im on the US east coast and I have trouble finding matches in infection, and warzone if I’m not playing during peak hours. Super fiesta party, firefight, and swat seem to match really quickly.

Definitely have had plenty of errors where it partially loads a match and then glitches out.

Yes i believe this to be correct. I would suggest that if not playing at peek times (out with peek times being between 8am and 5pm UK) that the best gametypes to play would be super fiesta party, quick play and warzone firefight. I personally find these the best game types to get a game during these times.

Ok. So a bit more testing today may have given me a (so obvious I’m embarrassed I didn’t think of it sooner :joy:) solution.

It’s probably not always viable in PvP, but Warzone Firefight it’s been working like a charm.

Short version: switch matchmaking preferences to “Expanded”.

I know right. Doi.

But after 30 minutes of nothing, switching to expanded got me a game instantly. Twice in a row.

As I’m not “against” players, who might otherwise benefit from connection differences, and as the server is dedicated, I haven’t experienced, nor do I expect to, any negative effects.

So yeah.

I’m a dumbo :joy:

Just a heads up, if you are matching with a party then I suggest joining a custom game together first. That seems to get rid of the “player failed to connect” error in matchmaking, even if it takes a few attempts to join the custom game. Just stay in that party after the custom game is ended and switch to matchmaking. (you can manually end the game early once everyone has joined.)

Thanks for the advice, we do get that a fair bit!

UK based here,

I always play on expanded search and still get the issues outlined…

Today’s issue (apart from connecting):

”Data Issue - can’t get data from H5G”

Ok so I’m not the only one. Though I was going crazy, might still be. :smile_cat:

I’m sorry it won’t benefit you folks still experiencing issues, but so far, everything is working great for me since switching to “expanded” search.

I’ve also been using the “start a custom game first” advice, and definitely notice the difference.

So weird, it’s half way to sacrificing a goat and doing a jig every time I want to play. But, it actually does seem to work, so… Where’s the next goat?

Today’s new issue!

”matchmaking is having data connecting issues”

it’s definitely getting worse.

I had this yesterday, took about 15 minutes before it worked again

A lot of the playlists seem dead. I only play quickplay, the weekly rotational playlist, big team fiesta, n infection for this reason.

Today’s issue:

”Attention - there was a problem with the dedicated server”

when trying to load a custom game.

Due to the population, the servers are worse cuz they’re pullin ppl from diff areas.
