He escaped and lived to fight another day with his legendary space mop which became a rallying symbol for all janitors in UNSC space to join the fight.
All were transferred to New Phoenix where they congregated and flourished in their own society, but were tragically turned into machine zombies when the Didact arrived. Their geas activated and they now spend eternity wandering the galaxy looking for places to clean with the space mops that fused with their armour plating upon being composed.

Clearly he just got locked in a hidden janitor closet on a spaceship and will go on to be known as Roger Wilco (Space Quest) and have exactly 7 major adventures with his space mop.
His character died, but doesn’t mean he cant be other minor roles in any future live action stuff.
Like how Stan Lee shows up as various old guys in the marvel movies.

Obviously he used his Space Mop to open a slipspace portal. Using the same Space Mop, he generated a shield around him that was rated for slipspace. He magically appeared in Janitorland, where all sensible janitors with space mops go.
