I watched the Forge reveal today, and 343 has outdone themselves. They’ve done such an excellent job so far, and that’s not even the final version.
But one thing that occurred to me was the size of the one of apparently three Forge Worlds shown.
It seemed kind of small to me when I watched the video. I am hoping that that was only a small section of the map, but I’m not really sure yet. I don’t want to be confined to a small space such as that when we got a large area to play around on in Reach. Then again, Halo 4 does include three separate Forge Worlds, each with their own, unique theme.
Do you guys think these Forge Worlds will be as massive as the one in Reach?
Like they said, it will be 3 mini-Forge worlds instead of one big one this time around. I’m sure each one will have it’s own theme though (grass, snow, sand) and will have their own specific palettes suited to their environments.

They probably had to do this to reduce frame-rate issues from the lighting and graphics.

Most likely, As well as the fact that Halo 4 is pushing the 360 to it’s limits. How many maps actually used all of Forge World anyway? Not many. It’s easier just to break it up into separate environments instead of one big space that no one would ever completely use and just puts extra stress on the game that isn’t needed.
I hope there’ll be enough space to create a remake of Blood Gulch. Obviously it would have to be completely built out of Forge pieces from what we’ve seen, but I would love to be able to do that.

There was only one forge map shown.
Anyway, it is bigger than every Halo 3 map and every Halo Reach map, excluding forge world, I think. It looked gigantic from what I’ve seen of it.

Yep. So it is easier on the 360 and it allows for multiple environments for less repetitive maps. It;s actually a smarter move.

I would actually really like to see the original canyon return as it’s own Forge environment. I thought it was a great fit for Forging. Blood Gulch may have not aged well over the last 10 years, but I think it deserves to live on through custom games.
Blood Gulch’s canyon (Grass), Sidewinder (snow), and Sandtrap (sand) as the 3 Forge environments would be awesome.

I could only imagine a game of hide and seek on that
while that one is quite small, I’m really expecting one of the Forge Worlds to be huge; like the Gulch, plus one Mountain, plus the Cave, and ending in the Beach.

IIRC one of the problems with Reach’s Forge is because of Forge World.
The game still has to draw Forge World even if you only use a portion of it. That means that there’s less power to be had for the actual map pieces, making maps that are 2 player split screen compatible rather hard because of their low tolerances.
If anything, Forge “Continents” would be better. Different terrain types (ice, fire, nature, industrial, sand, etc), different Forge palettes (no more grey maps!), and smaller sizes to prevent the aforementioned problem.
dont worry, i thought it was tiny as well. What we diddnt see, is that the water around that small grass land is forgable as well. roughly the same ammount of water that is on forgeworld. maybe a tiny bit smaller, But it is plenty big enough to forge a sky map, as 343 said they have made the wall coliseums much bigger, so we can make a flat map in 2 seconds. Just type in youtube “halo 4 forge rtx horse” And it will show rooster teeth on a map just above the large area of water.
