I’m thinking about getting the GOTY edition of Halo 4 (mainly because it’s cheaper than buying the season pass), but I was wondering do the DLC maps actually come up in matchmaking?
I remember I bought all the map packs for Reach and they very rarely came up, so if it’s the same case for this game, I’ll give it a miss
Yeah don’t do it. Don’t get me wrong the maps are great but only problem is they never come up in match making. To me its not worth it. I bought the season pass at launch. Big waste of money.
You should, not to mention Team DLC is out now, so the quicker you get it, the more time you have to play DLC maps and possible unlock achievements. But its your choice. Not gonna force you.
I’d say yes, since the more people who DON’T buy it, the less the maps show up for people that do have it.
The people recommending against buying the DLC are just contributing to the scarcity of the DLC maps on matchmaking.
That being said, they do show up much more often if you group up with people that do have it (I’ve got all of 'em :P) and as Riot said above me, Team DLC is up right now - but will be replaced with Squad DLC later.
i got 2 dlc packs. the champions bundle on black friday, and castle pack in october. i been playing matchmaking almost every week since sept, and i have YET TO PLAY A BTB DLC MAP!!!
DONT WASTE UR -Yoinking!- MONEY ON DLC UNLESS UR RICH. what a -Yoinking!- waste

And this is one more reason why DLC doesn’t show up as often as it should.
More people with DLC = More DLC maps show up
Less people with DLC = Less DLC maps show up
More people shouting DONT BUY IT! = Less people buy the DLC = Less DLC maps show up.
Many people do just this - go off telling everyone they know to not buy the DLC and then immediately complain about the lack of DLC owners.
Whenever I’m playing with my friends I end up seeing much more DLC in any playlist with it enabled, but when I’m playing on my own my experience is the same as his. Telling people “Don’t buy it, you’ll regret it” is doing more harm than good.
The maps are pretty. They generally play well. There is a DLC playlist right now. The more people that buy it the higher the chances that people will be able to play them. If you are going to get them, get them now.
I think it’s worth it, especially if you’re getting the whole GotYE. Lots of bonus goodies in there. If you hurry you’ll be able to take advantage of the DLC playlist we have going right now.
The problem with asking that question here is that most people here will say no. That’s not a good reason to not buy it.
It’s very likely that you will not see most of the maps for a while. DLC maps have always been a hard sell and this problem is not unique to Halo 4. I never bought any of the Halo 3 DLC, but I was glad they were included with ODST. I still don’t have all the Reach DLC but that doesn’t mean I never will.
You have to decide for yourself if it’s worth it, because it’s your money. 343i needs to rethink their DLC sales strategy. Most of us are penny-pinchers when it comes to buying DLC. They need to convince us that the price is a bargain. The DLC maps should be better than the maps that come with the game. I should want to buy them because I don’t want to be the only one that doesn’t have them. Or maybe they should be cheaper. I’ll bet there’s a lot of people that downloaded Forge Island because it’s free and never touched it.
I bet I helped you a lot, huh? Sorry. Buy it if you can afford it. There’s still a chance that you’ll be glad you did.

nope rgs
im late to halo 4, i bought it almost a year after it was released. took a month to beat the campaign, then went to matchmaking. that leaves PLENTY OF TIME for 343 to get the dlc maps in order. and now its 2014 with january almost over, and i still havent played a single dlc map for btb.
dlc works for regular team slayer, but btb is non-existant. u gotta be a world class idiot to give them a pass

Well I guess I’m an idiot then. shrugs
My point still stands though. When I see a bunch of people shouting “Don’t buy the DLC!” I highly doubt 343’s the one to blame for it but instead the people going around telling everyone they meet to avoid it.
So further avoiding the DLC and trying to convince everyone else to do the same will end up making it show up more? That logic is completely flawed. Just because it’s uncommon doesn’t make it not worth it. You can still play it in Customs, you increase your odds of getting it in MM by playing with people who also have it, and there are the recurring DLC rotational playlists. Non-Existent is completely not true. May seem like it, but that’s largely because of the “I refuse to buy DLC” people.
As said before, go into BTB alone and you’ll almost never see it. Go in with a full party of people who also own the DLC, and you’ll see it much more often. I went in with a full group a few weeks back and almost half of the matches had at least one DLC map. “Non-existent”? No. “Uncommon”? Most likely.
Sylxeria, I understand what you are saying and while I agree with you it is undeniable that not enough people frequent the forums for any outspoken individual to make a difference.
Forum goers are typically more devoted fans and make up a vast minority of players. One or two people who but the DLC based on forum recommendation won’t change the flow of matchmaking.
343 dropped the ball with DLC and they are aware of it. The maps are beautiful and play well but we never have a chance to play on them. DLC needs to be revamped for future halo titles.

Unfortunately one person won’t change anything, but every little bit counts.
Yeah, I hope DLC related material is more popular in Halo 5. Then again, I rarely got the chance to play on any of Reach’s DLC maps outside of customs, so Halo 4’s DLC wasn’t anything new for me there
