I hear all this about Halo doing this and halo doing that and taking elements from Cod and implementing it in halo. Whatever all I care about is the balance. If halo 4 loses it balance, it loses it competitive nature. If halo 4 loses it competitive nature, I might quit playing video games. I am a person who is out to prove I am the best by battling the best on equal terms. If this game doesn’t support my personality there is no reason to play it. I think the lost of competitive gaming stems from Cod and how it takes no skill to play; therefore, people like it since they actually think they are good at the game.Halo 4 will want to attract those skillless Cod vets and that is when competitive gaming will officially die.Ultimately I think Halo 4 will go this direction and competitive gaming will die. I hope I am wrong.

Your thoughts mirror mine OP.
Everything has been ruined by Call of Duty, and the new generation of gamers, the casuals. By the way watch out, this forum is infested by casuals, they’re like zombies, which is ironic since that’s probably their favorite Halo playlist.
Very true

Idiotic Nostalgic Fanboy =/= Competitive
Games like Call of Duty and Halo Reach are still competitive.
They just have smaller skill gaps.
Proof:
People don’t quit out of games because they are having fun.
It is because they are losing, and its a competitive game so they aren’t enjoying themselves.

I’m pretty sure, from what I’ve learned on this forum, that those hash marks shouldn’t be there.
Urgh, I need to address every sentence, and yet I feel like it would be pointless.
Particularly about the balance part…
Halo Reach wasn’t very competitive in my opinion.
If the game truly played like CoD then I wouldn’t play it. I like Halo for what it is. I’ve always liked Halo because I felt there was a lot more skill, tactics, and teamwork involved in comparison to other games.
From what i’ve seen Halo 4 looks to be much better than Reach. I’m sure they’ll find a way to keep everything balanced.
The one thing i’m not to keen on is the Forerunner Vision. I’m sure they’ll make it balanced but i’m still not too happy about it.

Invalid
This is why I have a hard time dealing with so called COMPETITIVE, or PRO players, they take the objective level of fun that is to be had in a good game, and completely reverse it. In a game which is meant to appeal to both, they whine and moan and complain when features are added that don’t cater to them. In some cases they can even be the downfall of a good game.
Stop reducing everything into the black and white terms of competitive and casual, and stop trying to make a game into anything more than it is. A GAME

I have been called an idiot and called people idiot various times and never seen a mod do anything about it.
Sltting mambaa:
Wrong term, fixed.
If it was anything else i don´t get it.
Don’t worry OP even if Halo 4 isn’t competitive you could always convert to PC gaming instead of just giving up on video games.

Do you play on PC?
There’s no reason to give up playing video games. There are some good competitive games out there such as Quake 3 arena. If you can deal with the graphics, I suggest you try it out. Saying competitive gaming is dying on consoles is a more accurate statement.
It is dying. I don’t understand the people that want these changes. Class system, perk-ish system, sprint, and points to buy and unlock weapons.
Why???
Why don’t you go play ALL the OTHER modern shooters that ALREADY have this?! THere is only:
CoD 4:MW
CoD: MW2
CoD: MW3
CoD: WAW
CoD: BOps
BF: BC2
BF: 3
Home Front
Mass Effect 3
JUST PLAY THOSE if you want class systems, and leave Halo alone!

This is where you are very hypocritical
they whine and moan and complain when features are added that don’t cater to them.
I’m pretty sure you are going to “Whine and Moan” when something in the game doesn’t go the way you want it.

Halo 3 was a very competitive game and was the most played Xbox game for 2 years in a row.
Halo: Reach was a very casual game and doesn’t have nearly as many people playing as Halo 3 did and the interesting thing is that there were millions less people playing Xbox at the time and it still had more people. Talk about downfall…
So as you stated earlier; Competitive players will, be the downfall of a good game.
You are very wrong, if 343 caters to the competitive players it will bring Halo back its deserved respect.

Some cases? Tell me 3 cases. I’m waiting…
Competitive gaming isn’t dying. In fact, it is thriving; Just look at the success of SC2 and LoL. Competitive Halo took a huge plunge in 2011 with Reach though. Hopefully Halo 4 can bring it back.
I think that people are to caught up in their dislike of other games rather than the enjoyment of another (i.e. Halo).
Class systems can result in competitive play just as easily or MORE than pure sandbox games like past Halo titles.
In Call of Duty you’re not FORCED to choose all the best weapons or setups; people do the opposite all the time. Prove your worth with an inferior weapon. THAT’s competitive gameplay --and it’s fun, too.
