Is Chief less of a soldier without an AI?

Now I’m not saying that Spartan 117 is less of a killing machine, I’m just wondering since AI increase reaction time and can calculate innumerable probabilities in the fraction of a second, does that mean that Chief is less efficient without one? Remember he isn’t the fastest, strongest, or even the smartest, he is just the luckiest. Luck can only get you so far and Chief has used lifetime upon lifetime of luck through out his military career, with him being an average Spartan-II (Look at me, calling a being that can fell armies with only a knife “Average”) does that mean he is less then his peers and the next line of Spartans? He is an aged person in his 40s by the time the war ended (He has spent years in cryo so maybe not physically in his 40s but you get my point.) So my question stands, Without an AI not just Cortana, but any smart AI in his neural implant is less proficient on the battlefield and if so will we see this in Halo 5?

This is just from a lore and cannon point of view, while chief has succeeded without Cortana in the games and in a lot of the fiction, she did a lot of little things like adjusting reticles on unstable weapons doing extremely complicated math for a vector at which something is incoming and the sort. So I’m curious to know what others think about this and how they feel it could impact Campaign exclusively.

He is the only hyper-lethal S-II still alive, which has to count for something. But I’m not sure gameplay will be affected. They might explain the lack of AA’s as a result of Cortana not being there to patch it into his suit, but I’m not sure much else will be done.

I know he’s labeled “hyper lethal” but I don’t think anyone doubts that the other three remaining II’s are also hyper leathal. Anyway, I agree with what Shurifire said.

Well, he has fought the majority of the war without Cortana after all…

While Cortana is definitely an advantage, John definitely hasn’t lost any edge without her

You do know there’s blue team and other Spartan IIs still alive

Yeah, I know, but as far as we know they’re not designated hyper-lethal, only John and Noble Six were. If you ask me, that’s kind of weird, as John is apparently only an all-rounder in terms of his abilities. He’s not the fastest, the strongest, or even the best leader. Then again, it was Bungie that made that statement, and we all know how they loved to ignore lore…

Apparently, some sources do state that leadership is his only particularly standing out trait, as well as his bravery.

I always tell people that bravery is just well-timed stupidity, but hey, I guess it works.

Well, there is no other person braver or stupider than John, who:

  • Decided the best way to escape the Threshold system was to hijack the freaking Covenant flagship
  • Went into free-fall into space twice
  • Slapped an anti-tank missile
  • What else?Basically John has the biggest balls of all the Spartans lol. Ah memories…

Yea, John is scrub that can’t even 420 yy quickscope, while blazin’ it. You feel?

His efficiency of decision making will not be as good without cortana basically telling him what do to. His individual battle skills wont be hampered at all though and it definitely wont make any difference to us as players either way. I wonder if Chief in the campaign won’t have the armor abilities but locke will?

And besides, he could just get a Microsoft Brand Windows Smartphone and get a more useful Cortana.

First - I’m pretty sure they whole “Hyper-lethal” thing was just marketing. I mean its only ever mentioned in 1 ad.
Second - He will experience a drop to combat efficiency (still awesome but less so). he will also have a lot more trouble accessing any sort of machinery, locked door, teleporter system, ect Cortana always took care of that stuff.
