The reason I say this is because Esharum is not only leading the Banished on Zeta Halo, but in the reveal trailer where we hear him giving a speech to the Banished, that they would have complete control of the Installation and “We are his Will, We are his Legacy, We are the Banished.” Maybe we will fight Atriox in a Flashback mission if they have those in Halo Infinite.
I haven’t beaten HW2 yet, but tmk, Atriox is still alive by the end of that, so your idea is completely possible. I personally think that Atriox might only be mentioned or appear in like a video call or something in Infinite, since he’s still on the Ark from what I know. It’s entirely possible that Atriox just has his higher ranks lead sections of the Banished when he isn’t around, for efficiency’s sake or something.
I would say he is 100% still alive.

At the end of the book Atriox is on the way to Zeta Halo. I think 343i are going to use him in a trailer to hype everyone up again or save him as a surprise on the campaign.

I think your second guess is more accurate to be honest. I wouldnt object to it. Not everything needs to be shown in trailers I think
I hope there is a boss fight between John and Atriox.

Let’s hope! That would be an awesome boss battle. 117 v the best Brute ever. But I think showing atriox might get the hype train going again but who knows.
The Shadows of Reach plot reveal about Atriox occurs before Halo Infinite happens and the message from Escharum must have happened sometime after that. If the game has it they will probably do a flashback mission to fight Atriox.

Although as far as we know Esharum is the highest-ranking officer on zeta halo in the banished I imagine he has many other higher powers (including Atriox) that he adheres to.
My guess is either Atriox is being held back on purpose (hope so) or between SoR and Infinite he will be gone from Zeta Halo again.
Remember that Inifnity is constantly on the run for Cortana and her Guardians. Yes, we saw what we think is Inifnity’s wreckage in that hologram. Who’s to say that wasn’t the result of a battle with Atriox’ flag ship, with a Guardian showing up and blowing up most of both fleets? For all we know Chief might be stuck on Zeta Halo. Just like Escharum with both their fleets being mostly destroyed and what’s left of them having fled the area. That would also explain why ground forces might think Atriox would be dead. Which would explain the ‘His legacy’ line.

the campaign clip was a few hours into the campaign so tuff could have happened
He’s not dead. Escharum is only leading a division of them. In Shadows of Reach, he was actually rescued from Installation 00.

… HW2 awakening the nightmare. ((Spirit of Fire vs Banished) vs (flood) I think you’ll agree the sequel was an impressive improvement added alot to the lore an went well with Halo 5. Yea Atriox is last seen on Reach in SoR they’ve been successful at repelling the flood in HW2 with the destruction of the ProtoGravemind.
But that begs the question of what happened to the UNSC forces of the UNSC Spirit of Fire.
