I bought it the day it came out, but I stopped playing it soon after because it made me angry more than it entertained me. There was lag, bugs, and just core gameplay issues that made the experience less than fun. Really, the only thing that kept me playing was a complex relationship-thingy that I had with another person who played a lot, but when that dried up, I gave up.
Recently, I gave it another chance. I popped it in only to find that it really didn’t change much from a year ago. It really just doesn’t feel like a Halo game to me. I hope Halo 5 does better in this regard, because I totally plan on getting it either way.
So, a year later, is anyone else disappointed?

Alot of us disagree with this, including myself. It’s definitely different, and improved.

I would expect as much, considering where I’m posting this. I’ve talked about this before over at the Bungie forums, and I just wanted to see a different perspective. Over there, Halo 4 hate is pretty much the norm.
I sure was at first despite telling myself otherwise. I had never been a fan on TS outside of a competitive level so when 4 dropped with all the Infinity crap I didn’t have much choice but to play SWAT. In previous games all I played was Living Dead, BTB, MLG and Snipers. However Halo 4 lacked a competitive playlist, Flood mode was and still is an embarrassment, Snipers played horrible, BTB is still a massive disappointment and the maps given were not to my taste (Haven, Solace and Exile were the only maps I could really tolerate).
But now I think Halo 4 is a very solid Halo game. It may not be as competitive as previous titles but it is still at its essence, a halo game despite what others say. Sure it still may have very casual elements such as Ordnance which I personally hate, however there are alternate options. Its current state is much better than Reach ever was in my opinion. Then again that was my opinion and I would appreciate if those against Halo 4 kindly respect that and restrain themselves from taking my opinion away from me like a lot of people think its acceptable to do.
Regardless, fingers crossed for 5.
Just wondering what do you consider to be recent? I mean you haven’t played since March according to your Service Record which isn’t recently in my book. Since then we have had a weapon tuning, more gametypes, free DLC ect. Pretty ignorant post if you ask me.

I played at a friend’s house a few days ago.

In which case I don’t see how you can claim it hasn’t changed much. Its changed so much in such a short space of time. The only things that haven’t really changed are the core mechanics such as Flinch and Sprint are still a thing. However that doesn’t make the game unplayable.

Absolutely it does not make the game unplayable.

Could be the changes just aren’t noticeable enough for the OP. I know how much has changed, but things still feel much the same as they always have been.
I was disappointed by how long 343 took to fix basic issues with Halo 4. I was disappointed by how easy it was to get to SR 130. I was disappointed that Halo 4 step further away from the original Halo formula. But after all the updates, the changes to playlists, I still enjoy the game now more so than one year ago. It’s different from past Halo’s but different in a new, exciting, refreshing way.
Me and some friends only play Reach. I’ve also bought Halo 4 the day it came out, and then, no Living Dead!! Instead of it they made Flood, I gave it a try but I just could not play it… what happened to Halo? The only mode I played was SWAT, that was still good, and Campaign just does not feel like Halo so I just played it because of the story. Abother good thing in Halo 4 was the new Forge.
Reach is the best Halo ever, and there are still thousands of players in online mode!
Edit: hope my english is not so bad
No and yes.
No: When it came out, I got exactly what I was expecting. Overall it is a very good game which I still have a great time playing.
Yes: Almost every time I read any new detail on gameplay, I was disappointed. “Can’t drop the flag” NO! “Perks” No! These are things I thought would ruin Halo. However, I kept an open mind, and figured that these are professional game designers, they know what they’re doing, and I’ll reserve judgement until after I’ve played it. I was disappointed to find that I was completely right.
And then I was disappointed with the post launch support. Some things have been done, such as weapon re tuning, but we had to wait for so long. Rather than fixing the problem, 343 thought they could throw money at it with high value prizes and competitions. Halo needed to be fixed in the design room, not the marketing department. And then there’s Race mode. Loved by many (NOT all, many) fans, it was for no real reason left out, and required modders, with unofficial tools, to put it back in. It took a small team of unfunded amatuers without all the resources to do a job that should have been done by the creators. Shameful.
I think Halo 4 is a great campaign.
Spartan Ops is a fail, but it could be a lot better in future titles if they made it more like Firefight/Horde mode.
Matchmaking is average. My biggest frustration is how long it takes me find a match, and that BTB (my favorite playlist) is now objective also and 75% of games seem to be on Exlie. I’ve bought all DLC but never play it.
Am I disappointed with Halo 4? Nope, since Nov. 6th, 2012, I’ve never been disappointed from it.

The only changes that have been made to the gameplay are some of the weapon killtimes, movement speed got upped to 110%, and… wait is that really it? I mean, I knew they didn’t change a lot of the gameplay, but I thought they did more than that.
I didn’t count Legendary or Team Slayer, because those are additional gametypes that are not the default and aren’t substantially different. Team Slayer removes PO, and Legendary removes PO & limits loadouts to only 1. Woohoo? There’s still Sprint, Flinch, bloom, ordnance, high aim assist, and all the other problems/controversial features from Halo 4’s gameplay.
It seems totally understandable for someone to not notice the changes made to Halo 4 since its launch. Look at it like this, you might notice that some of the weapons are more used or kill faster, you might get a match that isn’t Infinity Slayer, and you might notice that you move faster. Other than those 3 things I don’t see anything that would make your regular Joe think something changed.

Im not going to tell you you are wrong or try to take your opinion away from you but i would like to hear why you think this way. Im going to explain why i think reach is way better than 4 (even tho it did have lots of problems it self).
Any way the reason i feel this way is because FF in reach had replayability. Spops does not. Reach theater isn’t crippled, 4’s is. Same goes with custom games. 4’s is a disgrace. Then you have the fact that reach chooses good host so lag and black screens don’t happen any where near the same amount of time as 4. Reach’s menus make 4’s look like a joke. And last reach’s campaign not only have the scoring option but it explained its self unlike 4. This is just my opinion on why reach is better and i would like to hear yours.
All aspects of Halo 4 have disappointed me.
I love Halo 4, I’m going to start off with that. I still play regularly.
But all modes feel very lackluster to me, whenever I play any mode, whether it’s Spartan Ops, Campaign, War Games, or even Forge and Theatre, I can’t help but feel that there is something missing. Whenever I’m playing, I can always feel that none of Halo 4’s modes lived up to it’s full potential.
[Especially] the Infinity theme, 343i definitely should have taken advantage of it but they didn’t.
> All aspects of Halo 4 have disappointed me.
Seems as if you wear your Spartan as your avatar proudly, however.
I have a few annoyances with H4, but love is there no matter what.
