is Aim Assist making you miss your shots?

Before you all scream “NOOB!!!” hear me out.

The most irritating thing to me about aim-assist is how it prioritizes who “it” thinks you should be shooting.

Ever break down the shields of an enemy, then just before you get the well placed head shot, their teammate runs in front. Forcing your reticule off of your target, and onto a perfectly healthy unaware enemy.

Not only did you now miss the head shot of your target, but now this fully healthy enemy has now been made aware of you and turned the situation into a 2v1, while your target has time to fire their last shot.

This happens because the aim-assist is looking for “closest enemy” instead of staying on target.

I first noticed this in Reach, and I’m sad to this still exists in 4.
I have no counter to this problem. But I have use this to my teams advantage, by sprinting towards an enemy that is winning a DMR fight, they shoot me instead of their target, and my teammate has time to get the headshot.

EDIT: I corrected my terminology so there won’t be additional confusion >_>

I was just in a mantis a few minutes ago and I was shooting another one that just spawned up with no one in it on valhalla. All of a suddern, a random mongoose flys up into my line of sight and my crosshairs move to the side in order to shoot at what the game thought was the real target. I end up getting killed by the mantis I never took down…

Looks like I am not the only one. Every time I am in the middle of a one on one fight, and when I take down their shields and finally about to get that headshot, some other player on their team gets in the way and my crosshair follows them instead; and in many cases, I get outnumbered because of there be two of them and die.

I don’t have a problem with the aim assist, but it’s for too strong in Halo 4. Needs a little decrease. The aim assist should assist you in aiming at your target, not freak out and forcefully make you aim at someone that runs by.

yes and i hate it…

I’m glad I’m not crazy, this can be fixed though. But I doubt it’s an issue that even comes to mind when people think of “fixing halo4” I always though this was broken in Reach, I really expected it to be better in 4.

But I guess not :frowning:

That has happened to me in the Halo 2 campaign. I don’t think it happens exclusively in Reach/Halo 4, but it IS still annoying as hell.

Really?
Wow this was a problem back then too?

I never played the campaigns of Halo’s 1 and 2 (gasp I know) I only played custom games back then since I didn’t own those games

The first Halo game I got was Halo3 (gasp I know)

I die a little on the inside when an enemy vehicle drives in front of me and drags my reticle, causing me to die from someone I was about to kill…

Yes and its very annoying. I hate knowing I can kill an enemy player, only to have someone run by and have the game shift my aim for me.

> I die a little on the inside when an enemy vehicle drives in front of me and drags my reticle, causing me to die from someone I was about to kill…

I lol’d I kinda feel the same though. Remember 007 Goldeneye, Auto aim could be turned off, my brother was a beast in that game and didn’t use the auto aim for this reason.

Happens to me all the time too.

Yes and it is very frustrating it needs to be toned down a bit…I’m sure everyone can agree with this…I haven’t heard of anyone that likes how strong the aim assist so plz 343i work on this plz… by the way I love Halo 4 it’s not perfect but it’s slowly getting better with the minor updates

It happens in all forms of game play…from all MM via War Games, to even playing Spartan Ops…

There is nothing worse than shooting down and enemy, and the damn thing engages the team mate running just in front of you, or the enemy just behind the guy you’re trying to take out, makeing it a quick and easy double team on you, because your aim was redirected.

IMO, the Auto-Aim feature needs to be turned off, and taken out completely.

I personally don’t mind the auto-aim (actually kind of like it because I’m not the best player! aha) but in Big Team, it’s just ridiculous. It needs to be toned down a bit.

Yes, this did happen in halo 2. Its the main reason I hate aim assist.

i miss shots because people keep moving, its so rude, please just stand still while Im shooting you.

Huge difference between auto aim and aim assist my friend.

Yes happens a lot. :frowning:

> i miss shots because people keep moving, its so rude, please just stand still while Im shooting you.

I know right, I hate that… but auto aim doesnt really effect me that much, really only did something once.

> Huge difference between auto aim and aim assist my friend.

Whoops, did I use the wrong term? which one is the one we’re talking about?
